  • SERAP sues NBC over ban on Eedris Abdulkareem’s Song ’Tell Your Papa’

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over its ban on Eedris Abdulkareem’s song Tell Your Papa, which allegedly criticizes President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies.

The NBC prohibited the song from being aired on radio and television, citing its “objectionable nature” and violation of “public decency standards.” SERAP, however, argues that the ban is arbitrary, illegal, and unconstitutional.

In the suit numbered FHC/L/CS/797/2025 filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, SERAP is seeking an order to nullify the ban, describing it as inconsistent with the rights to freedom of expression, access to information, and media freedom. The group is also requesting a perpetual injunction to prevent NBC or any other authority from barring the song from being aired on broadcast platforms across Nigeria.

According to SERAP, the NBC’s April 9 directive to all broadcast stations banning the song is unlawful and incompatible with constitutional and international human rights standards. The organization states that censorship under the guise of “protecting public decency” cannot justify suppressing dissent or political commentary.

SERAP emphasizes that freedom of expression includes not only agreeable ideas but also those that challenge, shock, or disturb. It argues the ban has a chilling effect on artistic freedom and public discourse, noting that the NBC has not demonstrated any specific harm that the song might cause to legitimate state interests.

The group also challenges Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, describing it as overbroad and excessively intrusive. It argues that vague standards like “objectionable content” and “public decency” should not serve as pretexts for suppressing music critical of government policies.

Filed on behalf of SERAP by lawyers Kolawole Oluwadare, Oluwakemi Agunbiade, and Valentina Adegoke, the suit insists that all individuals have the right to freedom of expression and artistic creativity. The ban, they argue, fails to meet legal standards of necessity and proportionality.

Art, SERAP notes, plays a vital role in democratic societies by fostering dialogue, counter-narratives, and reflection on societal issues. Suppressing such expression stifles debate and undermines democracy.

The organization maintains that NBC’s action violates Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution, Article 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), to which Nigeria is a signatory.

Article 19 of the ICCPR protects the right to freedom of expression, including the freedom to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas in any form, including art. SERAP warns that unjustified censorship not only harms artists but also weakens public engagement, artistic livelihoods, and democratic culture.

  • Android 16 Beta 4 Is Here — See Which Devices Are Getting It

Google has officially released Android 16’s fourth beta. It is called Android 16 Beta 4. It means that app interfaces and system features are now officially complete. App developers can now start getting their apps ready for the final launch.

Google Releases Android 16 Beta 4 with More Device Support

With this release, Android 16 is no longer the sole preserve of Pixel phones. Some other smartphone brands are included in the beta program. Users of supported devices can try the new features before the official launch.

HONOR, iQOO, Lenovo, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Vivo, and Xiaomi brand smartphones and tablets now have support for Android 16 Beta. This expands the testing process and gives developers additional feedback.

The following are the first devices that will get the Android 16 Beta update:

    • Xiaomi 14T Pro
    • Xiaomi 15
    • Redmi K70 Ultra
    • HONOR Magic 7 Pro
    • Lenovo YOGA Tab Plus
    • OnePlus 13
    • OPPO Find X8
    • Realme GT 7 Pro
    • Vivo X200 Pro
    • iQOO 13

These tablets and smartphones will get to test out all the new Android 16 features.

At the same time, Samsung has opted out of participating in the official beta program. It is using the same strategy it has employed over the last few years. Instead, Samsung is testing internally its own iteration of the update titled One UI 8, which is based on Android 16. It is doing this internally, apart from Google’s public beta program.

The final build of Android 16 is expected to come during the later half of the year. In the meantime, the beta program will continue. Developers have already begun preparing their applications for the new build.

Android 16 brings system changes, improved performance, and richer app support. The nearer they are to completion, the clearer an idea users will have of what they can expect with the final build.

  • ‘Great Replacement’ Thinker Banned from Entering UK

ER Editor: And just like that, a UK ban on a controversial French figure, philosopher Renaud Camus, now 78 years old, becomes an advertisement for his very plausible theory, that of the Great Replacement of European white / indigenous people by migrant masses. He calls it a genocide and a crime against humanity. This concept is suddenly being thrust into wider public consciousness. Hmm.

White-hat friendly journalist Jim Ferguson has this this morning —

Translation: The United Kingdom is a woke dictatorship that wages war on reality and on the native people. Support for @RenaudCamus

    Breitbart ran this yesterday —

The British government has finally found someone they will stop crossing the English Channel, and ironically enough, it’s an openly gay, anti-mass migration thinker who was coming to give a speech at a political event. Prolific author and philosopher Renaud Camus has revealed that his application for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to visit the United Kingdom has been declined, and he is consequently banned from entering Britain.

Camus spoke to Breitbart News in 2018 and expressed the prevailing view of the “Davocracy” globalist elites, that human beings are generally interchangeable: “A product, a producer, and a consumer all at once, a thing, a number, not a human being”. From such a point of view, no sentimentality or worth can be attributed to any group of people, as they can be freely exchanged for another and still perform the same role.

The elites support the “Great Replacement,” therefore, which he defined as “the change of people and civilisation for the sake of the industry of man, the economic system which produces the Undifferentiated Human Matter, the human Nutella, spreadable at will.”

The report then goes on to consider the UK’s high levels of immigration.

‘Great Replacement’ Philosopher to Fight UK Ban With Help of the Free Speech Union

    TOBY YOUNG for DAILY SCEPTIC

The Free Speech Union is helping Renaud Camus, the French philosopher who came up with the ‘Great Replacement’ theory, fight the Home Office ban on him entering the UK. The Telegraph has more.

Renaud Camus, the French writer behind the “great replacement” theory that Europe’s indigenous populations are being displaced by migrants, was prevented from travelling to the UK, where he intended to speak later this month.

The decision has sparked concerns over free speech, with the Government warned against sending the wrong message during trade negotiations with Donald Trump.

The Telegraph understands Mr Camus is planning to appeal against the ban with the help of the Free Speech Union, led by Lord Young, a Tory peer.

It is unclear exactly why the philosopher was barred from the UK, but the Home Office has said his presence “was not considered to be conducive to the public good”.

Lord Young said: “We’ve reached out to him to see if he’d like any help in appealing this decision, and he said yes. So I anticipate that we are going to be getting an immigration lawyer on the case.”

The Tory peer said it was “wrong” for the Government to bar Mr Camus from entering the UK.

He said: “I don’t think that the common good is endangered by inviting people to set out their contentious views in the public square, particularly not someone as distinguished as Mr Camus.”

Lord Young said it seemed “tin-eared” for the Home Office to impose the ban while Sir Keir Starmer is attempting to secure a trade deal with Mr Trump, given the US state department has recently expressed concerns about “freedom of expression” in the UK.

A US source told The Telegraph at the time that there should be “no free trade without free speech”.

Sir Keir said he “made clear” in talks with JD Vance, the US vice-president, earlier this year that the UK guarded free speech “preciously”.

Lord Young said: “We’re trying to secure a trade deal with the United States, and the United States have flagged up that one of the conditions of the deal will be that we make a better fist of defending free speech.”

He added: “Keir Starmer said at a White House press conference that free speech was in robust good health in the UK, and didn’t need to be given any lessons about how to uphold it from the United States. But if that’s true, why is the Government no-platforming people?”

It is understood that Mr Camus was due to deliver a speech at an event organised by the nationalist and anti-immigration Homeland Party.

He said he was also set to debate at the Oxford Union later this year, with those plans now thrown into doubt. …

Lord Young said: “If Mr Camus wants to be sure of being able to visit the United Kingdom, maybe he should come over in a dinghy in the middle of the night. That way, he’s guaranteed entry.”

  • Russia, Ukraine Trade Accusations Over Broken Easter Truce

Russia and Ukraine have accused one another of breaking the Easter truce initiated by Russian President, Vladimir Putin, on Saturday afternoon.

Putin had announced the 30-hour ceasefire for “humanitarian reasons,” describing it as the most significant pause in hostilities since the full-scale war began three years ago. The truce was set to begin at 6:00 pm local time on Saturday and last until midnight Sunday.

However, Russia’s defence ministry claimed on Sunday that Ukraine violated the truce “over a thousand times”, according to Russian state media.

According to state-run TASS news agency, several explosions were reported in Donetsk, a city in eastern Ukraine controlled by Russia since 2014.

The Russian media said at least three blasts were heard in the Budennovsky district, citing a source in “operative services,”

Russian media attributed the attack to Ukrainian forces, though Kyiv has not commented on the claims.

The RIA news agency also reported hearing three explosions in the city after 9:00 am (7am GMT +1).

Meanwhile, President Putin attended an Easter service in Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, led by Patriarch Kirill, a vocal supporter of the war.

On the Ukrainian side, President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of violating the truce from the outset. Citing a report from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky, Zelensky said Russian forces had carried out 59 shelling incidents and five assaults along the front line as of 6:00 am local time on Sunday.

He further reported that, between the start of the truce and midnight, Ukraine faced 387 shelling attacks, 19 ground assaults, and 290 drone uses by Russian forces.

“Russia is trying to give the impression of a ceasefire, but in reality continues limited offensive actions,” Zelensky said on X, adding that Ukraine would respond “symmetrically” to any attacks.

Putin’s truce order followed months of diplomatic efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to broker a ceasefire. On Friday, the United States threatened to withdraw from talks if no progress was made.

In a televised meeting with Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov, Putin said the ceasefire was a test of Ukraine’s willingness to pursue peace.

“Our troops must remain alert in case of provocations,” he warned.

Zelensky responded by saying Ukraine would honor the truce and offered to extend it by 30 days.

“Russia must fully comply with the ceasefire. Ukraine’s proposal for a 30-day extension remains on the table,” he said adding that the truce “could give peace a chance,” though Putin had previously rejected a longer ceasefire.

  • Is your teen sleep-deprived? These expert bedtime tips could help

    By JOCELYN GECKER, Associated Press

Navigating bedtime with a teenager is, in many homes, a nightly battle with a constant refrain: Get off your phone! Go to bed!

Research shows that today’s teenagers are more sleep-deprived than ever before. Adolescents need between eight and 10 hours of sleep, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But nearly 80% of American teenagers aren’t getting that, and experts say it’s affecting important areas like mental health and school attendance.

Bedtime routines aren’t just for toddlers. Teenagers need them too, says Denise Pope, an expert on child development and a senior lecturer at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education.

Experts in adolescent sleep say a few small changes to how parents and teens approach sleep can make a dramatic difference.

Try a tech-free bedtime routine for teens

The first step to setting up a better bedtime routine is dealing with technology.

    — Separate children from their devices at night. Phones, tablets, streaming services and video games aren’t the only things keeping kids up at night, but experts agree they are a major factor in delaying sleep.

“Get the temptation out of the bedroom,” Pope says. If the phone is within arm’s reach, it’s hard to ignore when notifications buzz. Many teens say they fall asleep while scrolling, or reach for their phone if they have trouble sleeping, and end up scrolling for hours.

    — Be prepared for excuses. “My phone is my alarm clock” is something a lot of parents hear. The solution: Buy an alarm clock.

    — Put screens away an hour before bedtime. Exposure to light prevents the release of melatonin, the hormone released by the brain that makes us feel drowsy.

Then, replace screens with a new wind-down routine.

    — Try to get to bed around the same time each night and start winding down at least 30 minutes before. During that time, silence notifications, take a warm shower, read a book. To get an idea of what your teen’s bedtime should be, try an online “ bedtime calculator,” such as the one from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

    — Avoid caffeine and energy drinks in the afternoon and evening.

    — The best sleep environment is a cool, dark, quiet room. In noisy households, earplugs and a sleep mask can help. If a bedroom is too warm, it can affect getting to sleep and staying asleep, says adolescent sleep expert Kyla Wahlstrom.

Know the signs of sleep deprivation in teens

Some of the telltale evidence of sleep deprivation: being irritable, grumpy, short-tempered, emotionally fragile, unmotivated, impulsive and more likely to see the world and oneself through a negative lens. A sleep-deprived teen also may fall asleep during the daytime, in the car or in class.

“We often blame adolescents for being lazy or unruly or having bad behavior, much of which could be attributed to the fact that they are chronically sleep-deprived,” says Wendy Troxel, a clinical psychologist who has conducted numerous studies on adolescent sleep.

How do you tell the difference between a sleepy teen and a cranky-but-well-rested one?

    — One key sign is what sleep expert Joanna Fong-Isariyawongse calls “zombie mornings.”

“If your teen hits snooze five times, takes forever to get out of bed, asks you for a big cup of coffee first thing in the morning, most likely they are running on empty,” says Fong-Isariyawongse, a neurologist at the University of Pittsburgh.

    — Extreme mood swings are another sign. Sleep is critical for emotional processing, which is why sleep-deprived teens are more likely to be irritable, anxious or depressed.

    — A sleep-deprived teen may fall behind in school, because sleep is essential for learning and memory consolidation.

    — Teens who sleep less are more likely to make bad choices when it comes to drug or alcohol use, drowsy or reckless driving and risky sexual behavior.

    — Does your teen sleep until lunchtime on weekends? “Most likely they are not getting enough sleep during the week,” says Fong-Isariyawongse. It’s fine to sleep in a bit, but try to limit it to a couple hours. Otherwise, it throws off the body clock and makes it harder to wake up when the new school week begins.

Why should teenagers care? Show them the science

Explain to your teens why sleep matters, and that it’s not just nagging parents who say so. The data on mental health and sleep is vast.

  • Top Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player Riddles releases his Street Fighter 6 Season 2 tier list for 2025

Earlier this year, Luminosity Gaming revealed their top 50 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players for the year 2024. Riddles ended up getting ranked as the 31st best player in the world.

However, it’s interesting to note that Riddles is also a Street Fighter 6 player. He recently released a new tier list covering Street Fighter 6 Season 2 in the year 2025. All 25 characters currently in Street Fighter 6 have been divided up into the S tier, A tier, B tier, C tier, and D tier categories.

The best characters in the game according to Riddles are Rashid, Mai Shiranui, M. Bison, Ken, Akuma, and Cammy. Many of these characters have been dominant in the tournament scene.

Of course, it’s also interesting to note how characters like JP, Ryu, and Ed have seen a number of major successes in recent times. Riddles has ranked these combatants (along with six others) in the A tier category.

Players will have to work a little harder to win with Chun-Li, Blanka, Luke, Kimberly, and Manon. They can be found in the B tier group as a result.

The worst characters in the game right now are said to be Jamie, Marisa, E. Honda, Lily, and Dhalsim. Marisa seems to have it even worse than the other four as she’s alone in the D tier category.
