  • ELECTION UPDATES: Buhari Leads The Presidential Polls By A Whooping 2.3 Million Votes!

    By Efio-Ita Nyok| 31 March 2015| 9:17 am

Reliable information from Peter Okwoche of the BBC has it that 19 of the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja has their election results collated and announced.

Of these 19 states, the major opposition party, the All Progressives Congress(APC)'s presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari(Rtd) is leading in the ongoing presidential polls by a whooping 2.3 million votes.

However, election pundits cautions that we cannot affirm which candidate will emerge the winner seeing that 19 additional states' election results are yet to be collated and announced.

According to the electoral umpire, INEC, collation and announcement of results will commence from 10.00 am today.

The teething question running to and fro the minds of virtually every Nigerian is: Who will become Nigeria's next President -Buhari or Jonathan?

More updates are on the way. This update correct an earlier publication that put collated results at 27 states, and 3 million leadership by Buhari. It was an oversight.

  • NEWS: Buhari Leads with 95% Of Polling Units Collated – see results

    By Dickson Blessing
    8:15am, 31st March,2015

The Presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress Muhammadu Buhari leads so far based on collated poll results from 95 percent of Nigeria’s polling units.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will resume the official release of the poll figures at 10 a.m. Nigerian time today- Tuesday.

The APC candidate has secured at least twenty-five percent of votes cast in two-thirds of Nigeria’s 36 states. Buhari has so far won 14,855,820 million votes, with President Goodluck Jonathan having 12,107,628 million votes.

  • NEWS: INEC To Resume Announcement of Election Results By 10:00 am Today

    By Efio-Ita Nyok| 31 March 2015| 6: 34 am

The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Nigeria's electoral umpire, had announced in the early hours of today, about 12 am, that it will resume its announcement of the collated  results Tuesday 31 March by 10 am.

As it stands, the collated results from 27 states of the federation has been announced, and the candidate of the main opposition party, Mohammadu Buhari, is leading the incumbent president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, by a very wide margin.

It's been speculated that the opposition All Progressives Congress(APC) is leading the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) by 3 million votes. However, the winner of Nigeria's tightly contested presidential elections cannot be inferred as the strong hold of the PDP's Jonathan, mainly the Niger Delta region, is yet to be collated and announced.

The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria stipulates that the winner in any Presidential elections must have 25% of registered voters out of 24 states. The implication for 2015 Presidential elections is that should either of the major contenders -Buhari or Jonathan, fail to meet this requirement, then INEC may be forced to conduct a rerun of the presidential elections.

Main while, in Cross River state it has been rumoured that INEC's result sheet for the National Assembly elections, hotly contested for by the ruling PDP, whose candidates are Gershom Bassey(Senate) and Rt. Hon. Essien Ayi(House of Representatives),  and the major opposition, the Labour Party(LP) whose candidates are Sen. Bassey Edet Otu(Senate) and Dominic Aqua Edem(House of Representatives) has been hijacked by the governor, HE Senator Liyel Imoke who is of the PDP. This hijacking by the governor is believed to secure a win for the PDP especially Gershom Bassey who is perceived not to be the darling of the electorates in the states.

Security agents were seen to be deployed to the major ply routes of the state like Marian road, Eta-Agbor road, etc to frustrate any act of demonstration from a disgruntled public who may decide to take the laws into their hands.

  • LIFESTYLE: 10 Warning Signs That You Are Simply Wasting Your Time On Him

Some men have a knack of reeling in a girl and keeping her captivated, even when they have absolutely no intention of taking the relationship seriously. Don’t get caught by the charm offensive and don’t hang around, when a relationship is going nowhere. Read these ten signs that you really are wasting your time on him.
    1. When you look real hard, you don’t actually know that much about him
A sign that the relationship is only a superficial one is when you realise that you actually know very little about the guy. It could be that you are so besotted with him that you haven’t even bothered to ask any questions, or that he is hiding things from you. Either way, if you have been with a guy for a while, you should know something about his past, his likes and his dislikes and where he hangs out when he’s not with you.
    2. You keep running out of things to talk about
If the relationship isn’t going to last, then you have probably already run out things to talk about. In a healthy, long lasting relationship, you can chat away to each other all day long and there will never be any awkward silences.
    3. You never seem to go out on dates
A relationship won’t go the distance, if you never do fun things together. Most people want more than a night in with a TV dinner, so if you never go out to places, just the two of you together, then you could well be wasting your time with this one.
    4. You haven’t been introduced to his friends, or his family
If a guy has any intentions of making this a serious relationship, then he is at least going to have to introduce you to his parents. If you have no idea who his friends are and if you haven’t yet met the parents, then perhaps he doesn’t see you as becoming a permanent fixture after all.
    5. You feel like you are playacting for his benefit
If you don’t feel comfortable enough to be yourself around him, then something is not right with the relationship. Everyone puts on good show when they first meet someone new, but after that, you should both be able to relax in each other’s company and not feel any need to pretend, for his benefit.
    6. You do not agree on fundamental issues
If you strongly disagree with each other on fundamental things like religion, morals or politics, then that could be a recipe for a future disaster. You might be able to bite your tongue at first, but will you be able to do that forever?
    7. You are doing all the running
Are you the one that initiates everything? If you have to push the relationship along and you are the one that has to suggest meeting ups or going on a date, then that doesn’t show a lot of enthusiasm for the relationship on his part. It could be that he simply doesn’t have the courage to tell you that he wants to end it and then, you really will be wasting your time.
    8. He still sees his ex
Being polite and civil to your ex is one thing, but if your guy seems to run round to help his ex, at the drop of a hat, then you are wasting your time with him. This is a guy who is not over his ex at all and he would go running back to her, in an instant if he could.
    9. You are not a priority
If a relationship is going to be a good one, then you both need to get your priorities right. Everyone has the right to a life outside of the relationship, but you should still be his first priority. If you don’t feel that you are his priority, then, perhaps he’s not taking you seriously enough for this to be a lasting relationship.
    10. It just doesn’t feel right
The biggest indication of all will be your gut feeling about the guy. Don’t hide from your instinct and convince yourself that things will get better, because if your heart is telling you that something is wrong, then it probably is
  • NEWS: US, UK Govt release joint statement. Say there are signs of political interference in collation of results

The US and UK government have released a joint statement appraising last Saturday’s general elections. According to the statement posted on UK’s Foreign affairs website here, both government said the elections have largely been peaceful but that there are disturbing indications of political interference in the collation of results. The statement below…

Our governments welcome the largely peaceful vote on 28 March. The Nigerian people have shown a commendable determination to register their vote and choose their leaders. So far, we have seen no evidence of systemic manipulation of the process. But there are disturbing indications that the collation process – where the votes are finally counted – may be subject to deliberate political interference.
This would contravene the letter and spirit of the Abuja Accord, to which both major parties committed themselves. The Governments of the United States and the United Kingdom would be very concerned by any attempts to undermine the independence of the Electoral Commission (INEC), or its Chairman, Prof Jega; or in any way distort the expressed will of the Nigerian people.
