Apple iPhone SE 4 leaked with 48MP main camera, USB-C, operation buttons

According to MacRumors, Apple iPhone SE 4 has undergone major changes in terms of appearance design, hardware specifications, etc.

Appearance is the same as iPhone 14

Apple’s iPhone SE 4 is internally codenamed “Ghost” and its appearance is basically the same as the iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 test parameters will even be retained in internal testing.

Introducing action buttons and USB-C port

Two major changes are expected in terms of appearance: the introduction of operation buttons and USB-C ports. Apple abandoned the silent paddle on the iPhone 15 Pro and replaced it with operation buttons, allowing users to change operation options according to their preferences.

Another change on the iPhone SE 4 is the use of a USB-C port to comply with upcoming EU regulations. Sources indicate that Apple has begun to widely use E85 connectors, also known as USB-C ports.

Apart from the two obvious changes mentioned above, the appearance of iPhone SE 4 is basically the same as iPhone 14.

48MP camera

There is only one camera on the back of the iPhone SE 4, and the position of the flash is similar to that of the previous generation. Apple has developed and designed at least 5 designs for the camera bump, which can be roughly divided into 2 categories:

  • There is a rectangular camera island containing cameras and flashes

  • There’s just a camera bump.

Preliminary information suggests that the iPhone SE 4 may be equipped with a 48-megapixel rear camera, which could be a significant upgrade compared to the current model.

Cancel the Home button and enable Face ID

iPhone SE 4 may also use the same OLED panel as iPhone 14. The device will not have a Touch ID Home button, but will use Face ID as a biometric identification method.

Apple has mentioned “Pearl” many times internally, which is Apple’s internal code name for Face ID and related hardware, and is associated with the iPhone SE 4.

Unlikely to be equipped with self-developed 5G modem

Apple is also developing an in-house 5G modem codenamed “Sinope” and is using the iPhone SE 4 to test the new hardware.

Current information suggests that the new modem is being tested on the iPhone SE 4 and iPhone 15 Pro Max derivatives “D84S”.

Initially, the new 5G modem was intended to debut alongside the iPhone 16 series, with it available across the range. According to our sources, this may no longer be the case.

Additionally, Qualcomm recently issued a press release stating that the company will provide smartphone modems to Apple by 2026.

Apple is unlikely to test its self-developed 5G modem on iPhone SE 4. If it were to be tested specifically, it would not require redesigning the camera or introducing operation buttons.

Note from IT Home: Apple iPhone SE 4 is currently in the early stages of development and may be adjusted midway due to various reasons, which may differ from the final retail version.
