Apple has pushed the watchOS 10.1 Developer Preview Beta update (internal version number: 21S5042f) to Apple Watch users. This update comes 29 days after the last release.
After this update, Apple Watch users can use the new NameDrop feature to share contact information with other Apple Watch users or iPhones.
To access this feature, you can do so by tapping the Contacts app, selecting the profile, and then tapping the Share option. An animation guides users to place their Apple Watch next to another Apple Watch or close to the top of their iPhone to initiate the transfer of contact information .
NameDrop was introduced in iOS 17, but is not supported in the official version of watchOS 10. NameDrop is a part of AirDrop, and when users use this feature, they can transfer a contact’s picture, name, and phone number together.
NameDrop requires two iPhones running iOS 17, two Apple Watches running watchOS 10.1, or one iPhone running iOS 17 and one Apple Watch running watchOS 10.1.
There are also hints in the watchOS 10.1 code that the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 have a new Double Tap feature, but the feature is not yet enabled and Double Tap is still inaccessible.
How to upgrade iOS / iPadOS / watchOS / macOS development version?
Starting from iOS/iPadOS 16.4 Developer Preview Beta 1, you need to register for the Apple Developer Program. After registration, open the system [Settings] [ Software Update ] to see the upgrade option . Please note that your iPhone or iPad must be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to register for the Apple Developer Program in order to see the upgrade option in settings.
In future versions of iOS and iPadOS, this new setting will be the way to enable developer previews and configuration profiles will no longer grant access.
How to upgrade iOS / iPadOS / watchOS / macOS public beta version?
