Nintendo Switch 2 Direct announced a lot of exciting news about the latest handheld. There are new features for the new Joy-Cons, new Discord features like communication over GameChat, faster memory speeds for powerful games, and so much more. However, besides all the new games and features, there were also some new Switch 2 accessories revealed. If you’re an existing Switch 1 gamer wondering whether your existing accessories will work for the Switch 2, this one’s for you. So keep reading as we tell you about the Nintendo Switch 2 compatible accessories you can look forward to.
Nintendo Switch 2 Compatible Accessories
While some accessories from the past consoles will work with Nintendo Switch 2, there are certain limits to their usage due to hardware changes. Keeping this in mind, here is the list of all Switch 1 accessories that will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2:
1. Joy-Cons
Joy-Cons can be wirelessly paired with the Switch 2 but cannot be attached to it. Furthermore, to recharge them, you’ll need a Switch 1 Joy-Con compatible charging accessory, like the Joy-Con charging grip or a stand.
2. Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
Similar to Joy-Cons, a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller can be paired wirelessly with Switch 2. It can also be charged using the Switch 2 dock with a USB cable, making it the most flexible accessory of all.
3. Nintendo Entertainment System Controller
The Nintendo Entertainment System Controller can be paired wirelessly with Switch 2 and only works with compatible games. However, they cannot be attached to the Nintendo Switch 2. To recharge it, you’ll need a Switch console or a Joy-Con charging stand.
4. Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller
Similar to the Switch Pro Controller, this one can be connected wirelessly to the Nintendo Switch 2. It can also be charged easily using the Switch 2 dock with a USB cable, and it will work with certain Nintendo Switch 2 games.
5. Nintendo 64 Controller
Moving on, we have the Nintendo 64 Controller, which can be paired with Switch 2 wirelessly. Again, you can charge it with the Nintendo Switch 2 dock using a USB cable. It will also works with compatible games.
6. SEGA Genesis Control Pad
Now, even if you have a SEGA Genesis Control Pad, don’t worry—this one is compatible with the Switch 2 as well. Simply connect it wirelessly with the new console and then use the Switch 2 dock to charge it with a USB cable.
7. Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter
This Nintendo Switch 1 accessory is compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 and can be connected with its USB port to use the accessory in TV mode.
Non-Compatible Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories
Now that you are aware of all the things that would easily work with the Nintendo Switch 2, here is the list of all those accessories that won’t be compatible with the upcoming console.
1. Adjustable Charging Stand for Nintendo Switch
Unfortunately, the Switch 1 Charging Stand can’t be used with Nintendo Switch 2.
2. Nintendo Switch Dock
The Nintendo Switch Dock can’t be used to charge your Switch 2, obviously, due to the change in its hardware.
3. Nintendo Switch AC adapter
You can use the Nintendo Switch AC adaptor to charge your Switch 2 console; however, due to the change in power outputs, this accessory can’t be used to view the Switch 2 screen in TV mode
4. HDMI cable included with Nintendo Switch
The old HDMI cable cannot be used with Nintendo Switch 2, and it is highly recommended that you use the new one included in the Switch 2 box.
5. microSD cards
As per the latest Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo has confirmed the new console will only accept the microSD Express cards that allow fast data transfer. Hence, the old microSD cards will be unusable except for viewing the screenshots and videos.
6. Joy-Con Strap
The old Joy-Con Straps cannot be used with the new Switch 2 controllers. So, you’ll need the Switch 1 Joy-Cons to connect these straps and then pair them wirelessly with Switch 2.
7. Joy-Con Grip
Similarly, the Switch 1 Joy-Con Grips are not compatible with Switch 2, and you will need the previous ones to make them usable.
8. Joy-Con Charging Grip
This charging grip cannot be used with the Switch 2 Joy-Cons; it is only compatible with the previous ones that can be connected to Switch 2 wirelessly.
9. Joy-Con Wheel
This Wheel cannot be used with Joy-Con 2 controllers. You’ll need the previous Joy-Cons, which you can then connect with Switch 2.
10. Leg Strap
The Leg Strap is compatible with only Switch 1 Joy-Cons that can be further connected with Switch 2 wirelessly.
11. Ring-Con
It can only be used with Switch 1 Joy Cons, which can be further paired with Switch wirelessly.
12. Joy-Con AA Battery Pack Pair
Needless to say, the Joy-Con AA Battery pack will only fit the Switch 1 controllers and not the Nintendo Switch 2.
13. Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way)
Finally, we have the Joy-Con Charging stand that does not support the Switch 2 controllers. Moreover, you’ll need this item to charge your Switch 1 Joy-Cons if you’re using them to play on your Switch 2 wirelessly.
