Since the official Deadpool 3 teaser is out now, there have been a ton of speculations revolving around the appearance of Cassandra Nova as the main villain. Some time back, it was confirmed that Emma Corrin had been added to the cast of Deadpool 3 in the role of a villain. However, it was never confirmed which character she would be playing. It was heavily speculated that she would be seen in the role of Cassandra Nova, but is that the case? In this article, find out everything we know about Cassandra Nova being the villain in Deadpool 3 aka Deadpool and Wolverine.
Is Cassandra Nova in the Deadpool 3 Trailer?
The Deadpool 3 teaser has sent a massive shockwave throughout the internet. However, there is one shot in the trailer that has become a topic of discussion in the fandom.
At 1 minute and 17 seconds in the teaser, we see a bald figure for a second or so, and they can be seen with pointy ears. At first glance, you might think it is Professor X, but the character seems to be a bit too young.
Considering this age factor of the character, it seems that the shot showed us an easter egg, and it is believed that the head was of Cassandra Nova – the big new villain in the upcoming movie.
Who is Cassandra Nova?
In the X-Men comic books, Cassandra Nova is technically the sister of Charles Xavier. If we talk about her origin. Nova was not naturally conceived but was a member of an extra-dimensional race called The Mummudrai. These beings, also known as Revenants, are merely a consciousness that makes their place in wombs alongside powerful to-be-born fetuses.
These beings copy the complete genetic structure of the fetus and grow alongside it as their perfect anti-self or an evil version of them.
When Charles Xavier was in the womb, Cassandra Nova, in its body-less form, attached itself to the womb and copied Xavier’s DNA to help generate a body and grew alongside him as an evil version of Xavier.
When Xavier sensed the evil presence alongside him, he attempted to kill this being, and it seemed that he did as well. However, that infant, thought to be stillborn survived and grew up to become Cassandra Nova, a psychic as powerful as Professor X but purely evil and hell-bent on destroying everything dear to Charles.
Cassandra Nova Powers & Abilities
Coming to her powers, Cassandra Nova essentially has every power that Charles Xavier possesses. Since she is a literal copy of Xavier’s DNA, she can do everything Professor X can do. However, in some aspects, she might stand even more powerful than him because of her extra-dimensional origin, granting her powers Charles Xavier might not have even developed yet.
In the comics, we see Cassandra Nova wielding powers like telekinesis, astral projection, the ability to detect any other mutant around her, and telepathy. Along with these powers, she also boasts a healing factor, immunity to magic, soul gathering, and the ability to literally walk through or phase through solid objects, making her substantially stronger than Professor X.
As per the rumors and casting announcements, it’s safe to say that Emma Corrin (known for her role as Princess Diana in The Crown) is going to play the Deadpool 3 villain – Cassandra Nova. However, as of now, we do not know if she is going to be the main villain of the movie or if she is going to work alongside another major villain, which takes us to our next section.
Other Deadpool 3 Villains Spotted in Trailer
Along with Cassandra Nova, two more villains have been shown to us in the teaser. The first one is Pyro, a mutant with the ability to control fire. He was last seen in two original X-Men movies — X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand — and is making a return in Deadpool 3 after almost a decade. Another villain who is anticipated to appear in the movie is Doctor Doom.
In the teaser for Deadpool 3, we see a glimpse of a character who is wearing similar attire to that of Doctor Doom, but it’s highly unlikely that it is Doctor Doom since there are substantial differences in the character design.
In the final moments of the trailer right before the tease of Wolverine, we see Deadpool lying on the ground. Alongside him, there is a comic cover of Secret Wars, a comic widely known for the villainy of Doctor Doom. This could be a teaser for the upcoming Fantastic Four movie but as of now, it is highly unlikely for Doctor Doom to appear in Deadpool 3.
The teaser did not reveal a lot about the movie except the fact that Deadpool will be on a mission to rescue the Marvel Cinematic Universe (quite literally). Other than that, it did what it was supposed to do, tease. So, to find out more about what is going to happen in Deadpool 3, we will have to wait for the trailer or the movie itself.
