Unlocking New Memories: Google Photos Meets Gemini

It took some time, but Google is finally giving its AI, Gemini, more power and deeper app integration. Google Mobile Services has always been a strong part of the company’s success in the mobile space. By making Gemini work across more apps, Google is making it more useful and harder to ignore. The latest move? Bringing Gemini to Google Photos.

Gemini already connects with several Google apps. This includes Calendar, Docs, Maps, Drive, and YouTube. It also works with outside apps like WhatsApp, Spotify, and OpenStax. Now, it’s finally joining one of Google’s biggest tools—Photos.

Gemini Gets Smarter in Google Photos

Last month, Google previewed the new feature. Now, it’s slowly rolling out to phones, as spotted by 9to5Google. The update brings two key features.

First, Gemini can search your backed-up photos. You can ask it to find pictures of people, places, or certain dates. You can also use quick prompts like “show recent selfies” or “find photos of landscapes.” Google has had some of these features before, but Gemini takes it further.

Second, Gemini gets smarter with photo-based questions. For example, you can ask, “Where did I eat vegan food in Lisbon?” or “What’s the license plate of the Ferrari I saw in Bergamo?” If Gemini finds a match, it opens the result in the Photos app. You can tap “Show more” for extra details.

To turn this on, open the Gemini app. Tap your profile in the top-right corner. Go to Apps, scroll to the Media section, and enable Google Photos. You’ll find it next to Spotify and YouTube.

For now, the update is only available in the U.S. Google is likely testing it in real-world use before releasing it more widely.

Gemini is growing fast, and it’s no surprise. With tools like ChatGPT and DeepSeek pushing into Android, Google is moving quickly to keep up and stay ahead.
