Manchester United’s scouting team was present at the Everton vs Aston Villa match on Sunday, as reported by the Daily Mail’s Transfer Confidential newsletter.

Their focus was on Jarrad Branthwaite, the young English defender, who is emerging as a potential addition to United’s defensive lineup.

Branthwaite, an England youth international, has been on Manchester United’s watchlist for some time. His performances for Everton, especially after his return from a loan at PSV Eindhoven, have caught the eye.

This season, the 21-year-old has been a prominent figure for the Toffees, with appearances in 18 Premier League matches.

In Everton’s recent 0-0 draw against Aston Villa at Goodison Park, Branthwaite played a pivotal role, helping to keep the Villa attack at bay.

His performance is particularly timely as Manchester United seeks to rejuvenate its defense, which has struggled with age and injury issues this season.

Branthwaite’s statistics from the game demonstrate his potential value to United. He won two aerial duels and made four tackles, with a 76% pass completion rate.

Additionally, his versatility, being able to play as a left-back, adds to his appeal for the Theatre of Dreams.

While a move in January appears unlikely, Manchester United seems set to pursue Branthwaite in the summer transfer window.

However, they’re not the only ones interested in the young defender. Real Madrid is also reportedly keeping tabs on him, indicating a possible bidding war for the Everton star as United aims to bring him to Old Trafford.

  • Manchester United set to begin talks for £103m star – report

A report by the Mirror has indicated that Manchester United are ready to open talks with Benfica, setting their sights on a lucrative deal for the young midfielder, Joao Neves.

The 19-year-old from Portugal, who has already made a name for himself internationally, is seen as a key acquisition for United’s midfield line-up as the summer transfer window approaches.

Manchester United is reportedly preparing to engage in discussions with Benfica, with the intent of securing Neves, a defensive midfielder who has caught their eye.

Neves, who has a substantial release clause of around £103 million in his contract, is not under immediate pressure to be sold by Benfica, as his current contract extends until 2028.

The Manchester club might be hesitant to meet the steep price for Neves, considering his limited experience outside of Portugal’s league.

This leads to speculation about whether a lower fee could be negotiated, one that doesn’t reach the heights of his release clause.

Neves has shown promise, but has yet to fully justify a £103m valuation. Benfica may need to reconsider their stance for a deal to materialize.

His skills in possession control and tempo management from a deeper midfield position are notable. Neves excels alongside a defensive midfielder who can disrupt opposing plays, making him a potentially ideal match for Casemiro at Manchester United.

United’s recent signing, Sofyan Amrabat, who joined on loan, hasn’t quite adapted to Premier League football, and his future at the club appears uncertain.

Neves could be an ideal replacement, offering a promising, long-term midfield solution for Manchester United.

For Neves, the possibility of transitioning to the Premier League represents a significant step in his career, providing him an opportunity to prove himself in one of football’s most challenging environments.

  • CIES Football Observatory values Marcus Rashford worth more than Kylian Mbappe

In a recent release by the CIES Football Observatory, their statistical model has unveiled its latest rankings of the globe’s 100 most prized football players.

Among the notable mentions are five stars from Manchester United who have secured their spots on this prestigious list.

The CIES Football Observatory, based in Switzerland, has placed Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham at the pinnacle of this list. Bellingham boasts a staggering transfer value of €267.5m, leading the pack.

Following closely are Erling Haaland and Vinicius Junior, both valued over the €250m mark, completing the top three positions.

The group responsible for this extensive research, the CIES Football Observatory, operates within the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES). It is renowned for its expertise in the statistical analysis of football, as noted on their official website.

Their unique model incorporates various factors, including age, the length of the player’s contract, their career trajectory, and international status. Additionally, economic aspects like inflation, alongside the sporting and financial stature of the player’s club, are also weighed in.

For fans of Manchester United, the standout revelation from the list is the inclusion of five of their players. Leading the way for the Red Devils is Marcus Rashford, who finds himself in 14th place with a value of €136.2M. Rashford, previously rated as the most valuable player by the same organization, now ranks higher than global sensations such as Kylian Mbappe and Declan Rice in 2024.

The lower valuation of Mbappe is speculated to be linked to his contract situation at Paris Saint-Germain, now in its final six months.

The list then drops to 41st place to spot United’s new striking sensation, Rasmus Hojlund, who is valued at €99.7m.

Another notable young talent from United, Argentine forward Alejandro Garnacho, is estimated to be worth €94.5m, placing him just inside the top 50.

United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, appears further down at 61st with a valuation of €85.5m, surpassing players like Éder Militão and Leroy Sané.

Rounding off the Manchester United contingent is Antony, whose inclusion at 72nd place with a value of €80.1m might come as a surprise to many fans of the club.

  • Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer receives managerial offer

As per Swedish outlet Football Channel, SvFF (Swedish Football Federation) have met with former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær recently to discuss about the Swedish head coach position.

The Swedish Federation met with Ole Gunnar Solskjær in December and it’s reported that the Norwegian was interested in meeting them.

However, the report also states that this was before the football association decided to narrow down to Mellberg / Gustavsson, so it’s unclear if the Norwegian is still a candidate or interested in the national team coach job.

Solskjær, 50, who has not been associated with any Swedish clubs in his career, is well-versed in Nordic football, thanks to his time as a player and coach at Molde. Since his departure from Manchester United in November 2021, Solskjær has returned to Norway.

His recent activities have included UEFA Champions League match analysis for UEFA and coaching roles within Norwegian youth football. In a rare interview, Solskjær was candid about rejecting several job offers but indicated a readiness to return to management.

“Yes, and I’ve had offers. The latest two from Saudi Arabia. My best friend, who is also my agent, goes through the offers. If you’ve been the manager of Manchester United, you can have your own requirements for what you want to work with,” Solskjær stated in a September interview with The Athletic.

With the SvFF unlikely to match the salary he received at Manchester United or the potential offers from other clubs, Solskjær’s involvement with the Swedish national team remains a doubtful prospect. There have also been recent links connecting him with Turkish club Besiktas.

  • Benfica has reached an agreement to sign Álvaro Fernández, on loan from Manchester United to Granada

In recent developments, Alvaro Fernandez Carreras, Manchester United’s young defender, is reportedly on the verge of a switch to Benfica on a loan deal, as per Record.

Reports have indicated that the 20-year-old Spanish left-back, who is currently on a loan spell at Granada, is close to sealing a move away from Old Trafford.

Fernandez, who joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in 2020, has had limited exposure with the Red Devils, featuring mainly in their U21 side and not making any appearances for the senior team.

His stint at Granada this season follows a loan at Preston in the Championship last season, where he was a regular, appearing in 39 of their 46 league games.

Despite Manchester United’s current injury woes, with players like Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, and Lisandro Martinez sidelined, it seems Fernandez won’t be part of Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Portuguese outlet Record has reported that Benfica is close to finalising the deal for the young defender, though it’s noted that there are still some finer points to be ironed out before the transfer is official.

The exact nature of the potential move is yet to be confirmed. Respected football journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the deal could end up being a loan arrangement.

This move comes as Granada, where Fernandez has made 14 appearances this season, finds itself struggling in La Liga, currently in the relegation zone after managing only two wins in their first 19 games.

  • Liverpool lead Manchester United in the race to sign €60m-rated priority defender

According to reports from Nice-Matin, Liverpool currently are leading Manchester United in the pursuit of OGC Nice’s central defender, Jean-Clair Todibo. Despite this lead, a January transfer for the French international seems unlikely.

In an interesting twist though, Nice-Matin reports that United could potentially leverage a relationship through INEOS, which has stakes in both Nice and United. This connection could play a crucial role, with influential figures like Sir Dave Brailsford and Sir Jim Ratcliffe of INEOS potentially facilitating a move for Todibo to United in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur was previously linked with Todibo but has shifted focus, securing Radu Dragusin from Genoa instead. This development further suggests that Todibo will remain at Nice for the current transfer window.

A major factor deterring clubs this winter is Todibo’s €60m valuation, a figure set specifically for this transfer period.

Additionally, Todibo himself is focused on staying with Nice, partly to cement his position in the French national team for EURO 2024. He is a key player in Nice’s impressive defensive lineup and plays a vital role in their title chase.

While a move at the season’s end is plausible, Liverpool appears to be the frontrunner in acquiring Todibo, who shares a close connection with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté.

  • Report: Manchester United and Man City top scouts watch Copenhagen sensation

In a recent report from Football Insider, it’s been revealed that Manchester United and Manchester City are intensively monitoring the progress of Roony Bardghji, the young star from Copenhagen.

Scouts from both clubs are now a constant presence at Copenhagen’s matches throughout this season, keeping a detailed eye on the 18-year-old winger who has been making waves in the Champions League.

Bardghji’s performance this season in the Danish league and the Champions League has been nothing short of sensational.

The youngster has scored 11 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions, drawing the attention of the football world. His prowess on the field has not gone unnoticed by top clubs, with many keen on tracking his development.

The teenager’s talents were on full display when he scored a crucial goal in the 87th minute against United during the Champions League, contributing to Copenhagen’s 4-3 win in November.

This feat marked him as the youngest player to score against United in the competition’s history.

Not only is Bardghji capturing the attention of the Manchester clubs, but several top-tier European teams are also keeping tabs on him.

His potential has been highly praised by recruitment experts, who are excited about his future in the sport.

The right winger, who made his first-team debut for Copenhagen in the 2021-22 season, has since become a regular starter, appearing in 14 of their 17 league games this season.

His rise in the team was further solidified when he signed a new contract in January of last year, extending his stay until December 2025.

Bardghji’s international career is also noteworthy, with appearances for Sweden at both the under-17 and under-21 levels, where he has scored seven goals in 13 games.

His progress has clearly caught the eye of the Manchester rivals, who are now actively pursuing their interest in this exciting talent.

  • Erik ten Hag keen on signing a familiar face in Manchester United’s search for a new striker

According to Mirror UK, Erik ten Hag is reportedly focusing his attention on signing Brian Brobbey, the Ajax striker, as he prepares for the upcoming summer transfer activities at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag, familiar with Brobbey’s capabilities, was responsible for the striker’s first-team debut at Ajax in 2020. Confident in his continued role at United, Ten Hag is considering ways to strengthen his attacking options for the next season.

With ambitions to add a forward in January, United’s financial constraints mean they’re likely to seek a loan deal. This situation makes a move for 21-year-old Brobbey unlikely in the current transfer window, barring an unexpected financial windfall for the club.

The Red Devil’s scouting efforts remain focused on Brobbey, who could offer competition to Rasmus Hojlund. With Anthony Martial’s anticipated departure upon the expiry of his contract this summer, the need for a new striker at United becomes more pressing.

Mirror UK also notes that Arsenal is on the lookout for a striker, with Brobbey being among their potential targets. Arsenal’s search is driven by their urgent requirement for a prolific goalscorer.

Brobbey’s journey began in Ajax’s youth academy, and after making his debut under Ten Hag in 2020, he impressed with six goals in his first season.

Following the expiration of his contract with Ajax, Brobbey joined RB Leipzig but struggled to find the net, failing to score in 14 appearances.

A loan move in January 2022 saw him return to Ajax, where he found form again, netting seven goals in 12 matches, contributing to Ajax’s Eredivisie triumph under Ten Hag.
