According to reports from Nice-Matin, Liverpool currently are leading Manchester United in the pursuit of OGC Nice’s central defender, Jean-Clair Todibo. Despite this lead, a January transfer for the French international seems unlikely.
In an interesting twist though, Nice-Matin reports that United could potentially leverage a relationship through INEOS, which has stakes in both Nice and United. This connection could play a crucial role, with influential figures like Sir Dave Brailsford and Sir Jim Ratcliffe of INEOS potentially facilitating a move for Todibo to United in the summer.
Tottenham Hotspur was previously linked with Todibo but has shifted focus, securing Radu Dragusin from Genoa instead. This development further suggests that Todibo will remain at Nice for the current transfer window.
A major factor deterring clubs this winter is Todibo’s €60m valuation, a figure set specifically for this transfer period.
Additionally, Todibo himself is focused on staying with Nice, partly to cement his position in the French national team for EURO 2024. He is a key player in Nice’s impressive defensive lineup and plays a vital role in their title chase.
While a move at the season’s end is plausible, Liverpool appears to be the frontrunner in acquiring Todibo, who shares a close connection with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté.
