  • Manchester United actively “trying to sell” three players

Manchester United are actively trying to offload three players in order to generate the funds to get several deals across the line.

The Red Devils have recently released a list of seven players they are listing for transfer this summer. However of this list, two individuals plus a former priority sale are being actively worked on to confirm their sales.

As the major two signings this summer, Joshua Zirzkee and Leny Yoro have joined Old Trafford for a collective £78.5 million. However, Mason Greenwood‘s move to Marseille, Willy Kambwala’s transfer to Villarreal and Donny van de Beek joining Girona have only generated a combined £36.8 million. With a net spend now of £41.7 million and an original transfer budget of only £50 million, the club are in desperate need of making sales before anyone new comes in.

This need to offload players can explain the stalling of deals for PSG’s Manuel Ugarte and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt, however United need to act soon before they miss out on their men.

TEAMtalk have reported that the active attempts to sell the three Red Devils are a direct move to get funds quickly to complete on deals for de Ligt and Ugarte.

The three stars United are actively trying to sell

United have been very steady on their desire to sell Harry Maguire this summer with the former captain featuring on both of United’s “priority” sale lists.

Maguire has regularly found himself on the bench or injured in recent seasons, deputising to Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. Now with Yoro in the squad and de Ligt on the horizon, it’s clear that the England international has fallen further down the pecking order and so a sale is the favoured option for United.

Next we have Scott McTominay. After a great couple performances, scoring at Euro 2024 despite being knocked out in the group stages, the Scotland international is another play to be listed for sale.

It’s known already that Fulham, Tottenham and Galatasaray are all interested in the midfielder, with Fulham having already submitted an offer which was ultimately rejected for being too low.

Finally we have Casemiro. The midfield veteran has been long linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Nasr looking most likely to sign the Brazilian.

Whilst United are actively trying to sell the trio, it’s understood that Maguire and McTominay may ultimately stay at old Trafford, with the Red Devils struglling to find suitors willing to match their valuations.

  • French media react to Mason Greenwood Marseille debut

Mason Greenwood has now officially made his debut for the first time as a non-United player.

After 17 years at Old Trafford, the 22-year-old has now trodden onto the pitch in his new Marseille shirt as a complete departure from the Red Devils.

After a £26.6 million move, the winger is set to be at the French side for five years, with his contract running until 2029. His recent spell on loan at Getafe was a catalyst for interest around Europe which ultimately saw Marseille beat teams like Borrussia Dortmund, Juventus and Lazio to Greenwood’s signature.

Now, after playing his first game for the Ligue 1 side against Toulon, the French media have reacted to the young star.

French media’s reaction to Greenwood debut

French outlet Orange Actualites reviewed Greenwood’s performance, saying: “The Englishman distinguished himself with a few attempts without being able to score.”

Meanwhile L’Equipe commented the debut, saying: “Starting on the right side of the attack, he made his team benefit from his left leg. The 22-year-old Englishman did not try to force on sprints and dribbles, often sought the in-depth call of Amine Harit, who plunged from the axis to the right flank, and distinguished himself by a framed shot.”

However,  Football 365 was less positive about the performance saying: “Only a few days after signing with the club, Mason Greenwood was able to participate in his first game with Marseille. The English winger played only one-half, like most players. A half-time during which he only distinguished himself by a fruitless strike”

No doubt Marseille will be hoping for the winger to find his feet quickly with the Ligue 1 side competing in the Champions League this year. Whilst the winger may see a return to Premier League pitches depending on the Champions League group draw, there’s no risk of the star playing against his former team, with United set to compete in the Europa League.

  • Manchester United now interested in signing yet another Crystal Palace star

Manchester United are currently very interested in Crystal Palace this transfer window, with a third star making their way onto United’s shortlist.

Palace had a fantastic end to the season, winning five of their last six games including a 1-0 win over Liverpool, 5-2 over West Ham, 4-0 over United and 5-0 over Aston Villa.

It’s no surprise then that Oliver Glasner’s men are getting a lot of interest this summer.

United have already declared interest in Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton, however now a third name joins the two England Euro 2024 members.

    United’s new Palace interest

After known interest in Guehi and Wharton, The Telegraph reports that the Red Devils are now turning to left-back Tyrick Mitchell.

United have already been scouring Europe for left-back options, considering the likes of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. With the extreme crisis United faced last season, having both first and second choice left-backs out injured, Erik ten Hag is keen to avoid this in the coming season.

Whilst there was some speculation that Mitchell was out of contract next summer so could be picked up on a free, this was confirmed to be false, with the 24-year-old still having three years on his contract.

Palace could accept a player-swap deal

Although it’s unlikely that The Eagles will let Mitchell go, the London-based side could benefit from a player-swap deal.

Palace could look to swap for United’s right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka who would fit nicely into Glasner’s plans, with the Red Devils now keen to offload the player this summer.

It’s unsure if contact has been made about the defender’s availability, however Mitchell would certainly fit well into ten Hag’s style of play.

  • Manchester United very interested in signing €30m defender

Manchester United are keen to further strengthen their defence following the signing of Leny Yoro.

In recent days, United have named Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as players they’re looking to sell this summer. If United to part ways with these three, Yoro and Lisandro Martinez will be the only senior centre-backs at the club.

Matthijs de Ligt is still a firm favourite of Erik ten Hag’s, however Bayern Munich have rejected United’s recent bid.

Now, the Red Devils are looking at alternatives for the heart of the back line.

United’s renewed interest in Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah

Previously it’s been reported that United were looking at Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah. These conversations about the centre-back were taking place at the same time that the club were heavily pursuing Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton.

With the Branthwaite and de Ligt’s deals both stalling over transfer fees for some time now, United are revisiting their shortlist.

The young centre-back is a homegrown talent as a graduate of the Chelsea academy. Between 2018 and 2021, Chalobah went out on back to back loans to Ipswich, Huddersfield and FC Lorient in order to gain first team football. On his return from France, the centre-back began making himself a key member of the Chelsea squad.

Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport reports that Manchester United have a genuine interest in Chalobah. Suggestions of the 24-year-old leaving the club are increasing with the defender being left out of Chelsea’s pre-season tour.

It’s unknown at this time if a bid has been submitted for the star or if contact has been made with representatives. The London-based club want £25 million for the star, making him a much cheaper option for ten Hag’s squad.

  • Former club looking to resign Christian Eriksen

This week Manchester United have announced a list of seven players they are looking to offload this summer.

The announcement comes as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s attempt to return United to the top of European football. Whilst this is the first transfer window of Ratcliffe’s reign at United, the INEOS owner has suggested that the full squad rebuild could take up to three years.

This summer the Premier League side are looking to part ways with veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen has previously commented on a move away from Old Trafford, stating very clearly that he had no interest in a move to Saudi Arabia.

Eriksen draws interest from former club

Now, reports from Sam C on X claim that Eriksen’s former club Ajax want to see the Danish international back in their squad.

The Dutch side are reportedly looking primarily at a loan for the midfielder. However, United’s plan ultimately is to sell the star.

With this in mind United are looking to convert the deal to a loan with obligation to buy, or to a permanent transfer.

It’s unknown if Ajax will go for this, with the club needing to make sales themselves before any new permanent transfer could be made.

  • Fabrizio Romano provides update on Matthijs de Ligt transfer

    Matthijs de Ligt, Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have rejected Manchester United’s latest offer for the Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt, reports Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel.

The Red Devils have been in pursuit of de Ligt for a number of weeks now but a deal has not yet been reached between the two clubs.

According to Romano, personal terms have already been agreed between United and the 24-year-old.

The German giants are reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of €50m, and United are seemingly unwilling to spend that much on another central defender after just signing Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille.

“Man United have an agreement with Matthijs de Ligt, but outgoings are crucial, and at the moment, Man United will never agree to pay €50 million in one solution or with no add-ons.”

“Man United always wanted to include add-ons as part of the negotiation with Bayern, and this is why the situation remains open. Man United are not paying €50m guaranteed so have to change the structure of the deal. Meanwhile, Matthijs de Ligt is waiting,” said Romano.

Defensively, the team suffered hugely last season so it is no surprise to see centre-backs being targeted in this transfer window.

De Ligt could be a shrewd acquisition if the two clubs find a solution on the structure of the deal. He is well known to manager Erik ten Hag, as they previously worked together at Ajax Amsterdam.

In the 2018/19 season, they famously reached the final of the UEFA Champions League together, while also winning the KNVB Cup and the Eredivise.

  • Manchester United show interest in Liverpool target David Hancko

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a player who has also been linked with Liverpool in the current summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have had a strong start to the window, securing the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.

Conversely, Liverpool’s activity has been relatively slow, and the loss of Yoro to United has added to the frustration among Liverpool fans.

Now, it seems United are ready to challenge Liverpool again for another transfer target that Arne Slot rates highly.

United Express Interest in David Hancko

Liverpool have been monitoring Feyenoord defender David Hancko for several months.

However, it now appears that Manchester United are also interested in the 26-year-old, who has been described as ‘world class’ by multiple pundits and outlets.

According to The Mirror, Hancko is expected to command a fee of around £40m this summer. Despite the interest from both clubs, no formal approach has been made yet.

The story gains credibility from recent reports from The Athletic, via centredevils, indicating United are looking at signing a left-sided centre-back and Hancko is a versatile player who can play as a LCB and also a LB.

While the club has been in talks with Everton and Bayern Munich regarding Jarrad Branthwaite and Matthijs de Ligt, the negotiations have yet to reach a favorable outcome.

Today, BBC Sport, via centredevils, reported that United’s discussions with Bayern over De Ligt have failed to reach a positive conclusion.

Additionally, Everton are also unwilling to sell Branthwaite for less than £70-75m. Given these developments, United might be redirecting their focus towards Hancko.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will need to act swiftly if they wish to secure Hancko before United make a decisive move.

The battle between these Premier League giants for top talents continues to heat up as the transfer window progresses.

  • Former Chelsea defender on Man Utd three-man left-back shortlist

    Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw

Left-back was a problem position for Manchester United last season.

Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were out for vast portions of the campaign through injury.

This meant that the defence was really struggling on that side of the pitch.

Erik ten Hag had to come up with some alternative solutions for that role.

At times, he played Diogo Dalot there. On other occasions, he tried Sofyan Amrabat in what was a failed experiment.

With the loss of Lisandro Martinez on that side of the defence also, United were regularly destroyed on the left side of their defence.

So it’s no surprise that the team are looking for solutions.

Despite making it to the UEFA Euro 2024 squad for England, Luke Shaw wasn’t fit for the majority of the group stages. And despite showing images of him training this pre-season, Malacia is still not seemingly ready for football action.

A solution is definitely required here if the Red Devils are to make a better showing in defence this upcoming season.

And it seems that they’ve identified a three-man shortlist to strengthen the squad in the left-back position.

    Left-back shortlist revealed

According to The Mirror, the United hierarchy are scouring the transfer market for a new left-back to start the new season.

And one of the names will be very familiar to English football fans.

Feyenoord defender David Hancko, Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell and former Chelsea and Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso are supposedly the names being discussed for transfer.

There’s a lot to unpack there.

Let’s first look at Tyrick Mitchell.

It’s believed that the 24-year-old London born player may be available for a cut-price fee due to the fact that he only has 12 months left on his contract.

David Hancko has been linked to Liverpool Football Club, whose new head coach is former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot. However, so far, the 26-year-old has remained in the Netherlands. Hancko can play in both the centre-back and left-back positions.

    And then there’s Alonso.

A free agent after leaving Barcelona in the summer, this is not the first time that the Spaniard has been linked with United.

Last summer window, his name was linked to Old Trafford before the club instead signed Sergio Reguilon on loan. It seems that his name is still in the memory bank of the club as it appears they’re looking at him again.

Alonso famously played for top-four rivals Chelsea and has even scored two goals against United in the English Premier League. Both of those goals actually came at Old Trafford.

Could Alonso be back out at Old Trafford, but this time in a red shirt? If he does, it would surely be one of the strangest transfers of the summer.

  • Man United now consider signing Sporting midfielder

Erik ten Hag on Morten Hjulmand

Manchester United are keen to sign some new talent to their midfield this summer.

Currently the only deal in plan in the midfield is with PSG’s Manuel Ugarte, however the French club are holding firm on their valuation of the Uruguayan. Ugarte has reportedly agreed personal terms with United, with the whole deal now hinging on an agreed transfer fee.

In the meantime, United look set to miss out on other targets Youssouf Fofana and Desire Doue who are looking more likely to join AC Milan and Bayern Munich.

With the Red Devils not wanting to miss out on another deal, the club are looking back at their shortlist of options.

    United return to Morten Hjulmand

With so much talent across Europe, United have scoured the leagues for their shortlist.

A previous firm favourite comes in the form of Morten Hjulmand from Sporting Lisbon. The Danish international has been a strong feature in the middle of the park for the Portuguese side.

Hjulmand is considered as less aggressive than Ugarte, with an appreciation of his good positional awareness and his experience playing possession-based football.

Football Transfers claim that no offers or have been submitted for Ugarte despite reports saying the opposite. It’s understood that United are currently not content with PSG’s €70 million asking price.

Although at this time, the release clause for Hjulmand is £69 million, we’re yet to hear if United will be attempting to negotiate a lower fee.
