  • Alamut Castle in Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Can You Explore It?

Alamut Castle is a location in Assassin’s Creed Mirage that the developers have talked enthusiastically about. It holds a huge importance in the overarching lore of Assassin’s Creed, and many players might feel happy about its existence in this game. But, newcomers who have not followed this series since its inception might be confused about the significance of this location. So, we discuss everything about this iconic location that players get to visit in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Also, many players may be wondering if they can enter and explore the Alamut Castle, so we have answered that too.

Note: This article has mild spoilers about the story of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, so we advise you to read with caution.

History of Alamut Castle in Assassin’s Creed

    Alamut Castle Assassins Creed Mirage

In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the Alamut Castle is where the Hidden Ones operate out of. This is the creed that eventually gets named Hassassin. In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the castle is shown to be in construction and not yet completed. Since the game takes place in 861 BCE, the castle is currently under construction on the hill perch.

The Alamut Castle is where the expansion of the Hidden Ones begins, transforming into the Assassin’s Brotherhood and becoming much more public when Knights Templers started their third crusade. You might know about this place if you’ve played Assassin’s Creed Rogue and read a few supplementary books based on the games. Mirage is the first game to feature the Alamut Castle.

This is nearly in line with the actual history recordings of the Alamut Castle. In real-world history, Alamut Castle was built by the Justanid ruler of Daylam in approximately 840 AD. This castle was later captured by one Hasan-i Sabbah in 1088. Fans of the series might recognize this name, as Hassan-i Sabbah gets credit for forming the modern-day brotherhood of Assassins in the game.

His son, Hassan the Younger, would eventually become the leader of the Levantine Assassins, who created their sovereign state of Masyaf in Assassin’s Creed. In AC Mirage, Alamut Castle also houses one of the old Isu temples, and the Hidden Ones guard it against the elusive order.

Can You Visit Alamut Castle in Assassin’s Creed Mirage?

While Alamut Castle holds a significant historical influence in the overall lore of Assassin’s Creed, the treatment of the area has been a tad disappointing in AC Mirage. The Alamut Castle region is limited. After the prologue ends, you experience the region for the first time. Since this is a base of operation for the Hidden Ones, naturally, Basim is brought here to learn the ways of the creed. We get to check a few sections of Alamut during this time frame.

This is the only time you will get to experience Alamut Castle. Otherwise, the entirety of the game takes place in the walled city of Baghdad. Only during the climax of the game do we return to Alamut Castle in AC Mirage. Even in this encounter, you’ll only get to explore a limited portion of the area. Hence, Alamut Castle is only a location that works as a set piece to carry the story forward. It does hold importance in the story here, as the Brotherhood of Assassins was born from this singular place. Unfortunately, giving some more room to allow to check the area certainly might’ve been a welcoming addition.

So, did you try out Assassin’s Creed Mirage yet? If so, on which platform? Let us know in the comments section below. While you are here, check out our Assassin’s Creed Mirage review, we praised the game for returning to its roots and trying things the older games are known for.

  • Justin Wong releases A.K.I. match up chart for Street Fighter 6

A.K.I. has been in the hands of Street Fighter 6 players for a few weeks now already, and they definitely don’t seem to think she’s the best in the game.

Legendary fighting game pro CLO|Justin Wong just released his own A.K.I. match up chart for SF6 after putting in quite a bit of time with the character (and being the first person to take her to Master rank).

Starting out with Zangief, Wong interestingly puts the grappler as one of A.K.I.’s worst battles in the game because he can almost end her off of one good jump in with his ability to option select her wakeup options.

Up against arguably the best character in SF6 right now, Justin has the poison user going even with JP using her good mid-range pokes and draining options to shut down a lot of his zoning or slide in from full screen if he’s trying to keep away.

In some big breaks from WRZT|Nemo’s match up chart for A.K.I., the mutli-game Evo champion feels the new DLC actually defeats the likes of Juri, Manon, Ryu and Dee Jay.

That being said, however, he still has her getting her butt kicked pretty hard by Marisa, Luke and Ken too.

Overall, Justin seems to have a much more balanced impression of A.K.I. compared to Nemo, who pretty much has her at the bottom of the barrel in his new tier list.

You can check out Justin Wong’s full A.K.I. match up chart below as well as his breakdown video going over all of his picks in more detail too.

  • King of Fighters 15 fans get creative with their own sketch and meme guesses for new character silhouette tease

For what feels like the first time in forever, SNK finally gave the internet a new silhouette teaser to pore over for the next DLC character in The King of Fighters 15.

Fans of the series were of course ready to jump into action to fill in the blanks with their own sketches and meme guesses as to who’s coming next to the fighting game.

There is of course quite a few people out there going for what seems to be the obvious pick in Hinako, but there’s plenty of others going a bit deeper down the rabbit hole to show off what they want.

We’ve got sketches of the likes of Oswald, a very crude Sieger, a somewhat flamboyant Ryuhaku Todoh, and Shion among others.

And then you’ve got people taking the more meme’d approach, and admittedly, seeing Jay Kay from Jamiroquai gave me an unexpected laugh.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama got around to making his own sketch though it seems like the community has him pretty much covered.

Whoever is coming will be joining up with the rest of the Season 2 cast for KOF15 in Shingo Yabuki, Kim Kaphwan, Sylvie Paula Paula, Najd and Duo Lon as well as Goenitz, so it seems we may need another lady to even things out.

SNK hasn’t given out an exact time for the trailer drop, but it’ll probably come around 7 p.m. PDT tonight, October 9.

Let us know what your favorite guess is in the comments and if we missed any good ones.

  • Marvel vs. Capcom 3 modders discover first early assets for Doctor Octopus and other cut content

It’s been well over a decade now since Marvel vs. Capcom 3 arrived on the scene, which is now being kept alive and growing thanks to dedicated players and a modding community that continues to add new stuff to the fan-favorite game.

On top of that, a group of Marvel modders recently got their hands on an old version of MvC3 for the Xbox 360 that still contained data on the disc for a good bit of cut content that never made it in (or at least not at that time).

Some familiar names including Tabs, Eternal Yoshi and Xeno did a deep dive through the original files when things got really interesting.

They managed to uncover actual character select screen portraits for Spider-Man villain Doctor Octopus as well as Dead Rising’s Frank West, who was originally planned for vanilla MvC3 but didn’t make the cut until Ultimate.

The group was also able to insert some of those assets back into the base game including Doc Ock on the select screen as well as his fighter name for matches although they were unable to recover his battle theme, which was apparently finished and never saw the light of day as far as we’re aware.

It’s been known that Doc Ock was originally planned for MvC3 and was “worked on for a very long time” for years now, but this is the first real physical evidence we’ve seen of his existence, which is pretty exciting.

Generally, it is believed that the villain didn’t make it into the game due to technical issues with his tentacle arms though we haven’t found a source outright stating such.

Beyond those characters, other files were discovered including unused color palettes and voice lines as well as an unfinished stage and music.

Some of them were managed to be restored too and shown off online for all to see what didn’t quite make the cut.

There’s plenty of other Marvel characters who were considered for the fighting game roster at one point or another that were revealed by director Ryota Niitsuma as well as their basic reasons for not getting in.

If there exists any more pertinent data on these older versions of MvC3, these talented modders will probably dig it up at some point, but it seems like they may be busy with another project we’ll discuss more shortly.

  • Kung Lao’s razor-sharp hat from the Mortal Kombat series recreated in real life

At the beginning of Mortal Kombat 1’s main story mode, the player takes up the role of Kung Lao for four fights against Raiden, Smoke, Scorpion, and then Sub-Zero. During his fight with Sub-Zero, Kung Lao comes up with the idea to remake his hat with razor-sharp edges.

A few months back, Knives Project released a video that showcases him building Kung Lao’s razor-sharp hat, though this was apparently inspired by Kung Lao’s appearance in the Mortal Kombat movie (2021).

Upon finishing the hat, Knives Project demonstrates that the hat isn’t just for show. This thing is about as deadly as it is in the Mortal Kombat series.

A test is performed on a pair of cucumbers tied to the ceiling by a rope. The hat is able to cleanly slice through both cucumbers with a single swing of the hat.

Of course, Kung Lao’s most iconic method of using his head gear is to just straight up throw it at his opponents. At the end of the video, Knives Project throws the hat at a stack of wooden boards, causing it to stick out.

  • 3D artist creates breathtaking models of Street Fighter gals

First and foremost, no, this is not made by AI. MikaDawn3D is an artist who has been using Blender since 2020 to create 3D models of their favorite fictional characters, the lead of which seems very much to be Street Fighter’s Cammy.

While Miss White is the subject of the majority of the images in our roundup today, she is joined by the likes of Chun-Li, Laura, Manon, and Juri (who is joined by a guest appearance from an Overwatch character). There’s a lot to love when it comes to MikaDawn’s art, continue on to see for yourself.

Things kick off with an image of Cammy in a very, let’s say catlike pose. This particular shot actually appears twice in the gallery, as Mika has an affinity for showing off the Killer Bee in both her modern and traditional costumes. Actually, it’s more of a combination of both at the same time.

The second image features the same subject, but in a nighttime pool setting. She’s decked out in an English-pride bikini instead of her standard wear, which looks absolutely amazing.

Laura Matsuda of Street Fighter 5 fame makes an appearance next as the Brazilian fighter shows off her alternate “Bonita” costume.

Later in the gallery, Chun-Li dons an Alpha-themed bikini for her time in the pool, and we also get a view of her in her standard Street Fighter 6 attire. The Strongest Woman in the World is looking better than ever, despite technically being 55 years old at this point.

There’s plenty more Cammy as well as a costume swap between Juri and Overwatch’s D.Va, and a pose from SF6 newcomer, ballerina, judoka, and supermodel Manon. Check out the full gallery below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Take a look at the silhouette teaser below and let us know in the comments who you think it’s going to be.

  • What happens when a Nintendo Switch player challenges a PlayStation 5 user to a match in Mortal Kombat 1

Many fans were initially skeptical when it was announced that Mortal Kombat 1 would be released on the Nintendo Switch alongside the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. Unfortunately, this skepticism was well founded as the Switch port looks and performs way worse compared to other versions of the game.

While it should be noted that Ed Boon himself acknowledges the problems and has assured fans that the switch version will absolutely be getting an update, the Switch port has since become a meme within the fighting game community. Needless to say, it should come as no surprise that Mightykeef has come up with a hilarious skit that tackles this meme.

The skit begins with a PlayStation 5 user dominating someone online as Reptile. Suddenly, another player enters the room only to scoff at the gameplay. The challenger is then asked if he brought his own controller, but ends up being flabbergasted when that challenger brings out a pair of Joy-Con devices for the Nintendo Switch.

As it turns out, the PlayStation 5 user wasn’t even aware that Mortal Kombat 1 was even on the Switch. Upon seeing the facial expressions of the characters, the player is appalled and confused.

Needless to say, he ends up seeing Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Smoke, and Reptile on the Switch, and then coining them instead as Jimmy Enclosure, Sally Butter-Knife, Gas, and Amphibian respectively.

  • Get Street Fighter 6 Collector’s Edition for just over $60 or the Deluxe Edition right now for only $43

Plus some more nice fighting game deals

Many of you here may already own a copy of Street Fighter 6, but if you don’t or perhaps are looking to double dip with some extra goodies, now might be the time to do so.

You can currently purchase the big Mad Gear box Collector’s Edition of SF6 for just over $60 while the Deluxe Edition can be found for less than the price of the retail game.

GameStop is currently holding their Pro Week containing a bunch of deals and promotions in the stores and across the website.

That includes 75% off of some new games, and that happens to include the biggest bundles for Street Fighter 6.

Instead of shelling out $250 USD, the Mad Gear box is marked all the way down to $62.50, which is a pretty darn nice deal considering it includes the game, Kimberly + Luke statues, Year 1 Ultimate Pass and everything else for fans.

Currently, the deal is live for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the Collector’s Edition, however, you’ll need to find a store where they’re available considering ship to home no longer appears to be an option for them.

On top of the big box, GameStop has the Deluxe Editions for half price at $42.50 on all three consoles.

At the same time, Amazon is selling the digital Deluxe Edition of SF6 for 50% off for the PlayStation 4 version only.

So that’s $42.50 for the base game and Year 1 Character Pass, which can be upgraded to the PS5 version.

GameStop’s Pro Week is set to last through October 14, but supplies are certainly going to be limited for these deals while the Amazon sale could end at pretty much any time.

For other fighting games, GameStop also has Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid – Collector’s Edition, Pokken Tournament DX for $15, The King of Fighters 15 for $20, Tekken 7 for $10, DNF Duel for $25, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R for $10
and some versions of Mortal Kombat 11.

These deals are only confirmed available for the United States as well, so other regions may have different sales or none at all.

  • Daigo Umehara notes that A.K.I. is definitely not strong but is fun in Street Fighter 6

A.K.I. is the latest character to join Street Fighter 6’s roster. Like F.A.N.G in Street Fighter 5, A.K.I. has a unique playstyle that relies on inflicting the poison status upon the opponent.

Unfortunately, early impressions indicate that A.K.I. may have inherited another of F.A.N.G’s quirks. A.K.I. might be one of the worst characters in Street Fighter 6, just like how F.A.N.G was one of the worst in Street Fighter 5.

As one might expect, BST|Daigo Umehara has also been exploring A.K.I.’s capabilities in Street Fighter 6. Thanks to FGC Translated Alpha, we have a clear picture of what Daigo thinks of A.K.I.

“A.K.I. is definitely not strong, but she’s fun,” noted Daigo in the video. He also mentioned that he feels that it would be difficult for him to achieve a 20 win streak even in Diamond 2 with A.K.I.

“In fact, she’s really fun,” continued Daigo. “But I’m afraid that she’ll follow the path that F.A.N.G took. She will never be relevant and disappear from the scene. It’s such a shame.”

During the video, Daigo would go on to note that he was having difficulties pulling off shimmies, checking Drive Rushes, whiff punishing, and more while playing as A.K.I. In particular, Daigo ended up declaring Cammy as being A.K.I.’s worst match up.
