Zelnick also touched upon other business decisions made by Take-Two, stating that the company releases marketing only right before the game becomes available. Comparatively, other businesses in the gaming industry tend to reveal deadlines years in advance.
“We have competitors who announce release dates years in advance,” Zelnick stated. “We have determined that marketing materials should be available closer to the product launch. This means there is enough time for excitement to build, but also for expectations to be subdued.”
This form of strategy allows Take-Two to remain overpromising and maintain quality of gameplay without external worries.
