Qualcomm has officially introduced its latest high-end mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Internally known as SM8735, the chip is built on TSMC’s N4P 4nm process but sticks with the older Kryo CPU instead of the Oryon core in the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite.

  • 2x Cortex-A720 (2.0GHz)

Qualcomm claims a 31% speed boost over the previous Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while also being 39% more power-efficient.

Graphics and Gaming Enhancements

The Adreno 825 GPU offers a significant 49% graphics performance increase compared to its predecessor. Gamers can enjoy features like:

  • On-device ray tracing
  • Snapdragon Elite Gaming features
  • Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 2.0
  • Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0

AI, Imaging, and Connectivity Upgrades

The updated Hexagon NPU improves on-device AI performance by 44%, while the 18-bit triple ISP supports:

  • Up to 320MP camera sensors
  • 4K 60fps HDR video recording

The chip integrates the Snapdragon X75 5G modem for connectivity, delivering peak download speeds of 4.2Gbps—but it only supports sub-6GHz 5G, not mmWave. Other connectivity features include:

  • Wi-Fi 7
  • Bluetooth 6.0
  • USB 3.1 Gen 2
  • UFS 4.0 storage
  • LPDDR5X RAM

Additionally, Qualcomm’s Extended Personal Area Network (XPAN) enhances wireless audio transmission and is already supported by devices like the Xiaomi Buds 5 Pro.

Launch and Availability

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is set to debut on the iQOO Z10 Turbo later this month, with more devices from Xiaomi, Oppo, Meizu, and others to follow soon.
