Manchester United managerial position has been followed by rumours and controversy day after day with the uncertainty over Erik ten Hag’s tenure after this season on account of bad results and a bad season overall.
Numerous managers have been linked with the hottest seat in world football, from Gareth Southgate to Roberto De Zerbi, from Thomas Tuchel to fellow German Julian Nageslmann. The latest name in this list has been Ipswich Town manager and former United first team coach Kieran Mckenna.
The 37-year-old has done an exceptional job at Ipswich town and, as Football Insider reports, there is genuine interest from Man United to approach him. Mckenna knows the club inside and out already, having worked as an assistant under both José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
It is impossible to ignore the young manager’s pedigree and he does deserve some recognition. At the time of his appointment, Ipsiwch were bottom of the third tier and the Tractor Boys are now on top of the Championship, contesting for automatic promotion to the Premier League – all in one season.
On the verge of back to back promotions with Ipswich has reportedly gone down very well in Ratcliffe’s camp, and they are thoroughly impressed with his transformation of the Championship club and have a ‘concrete’ interest in his services.
It remains to be seen what Ratcliffe and his contingent decide to do come the summer, but things are not looking up.
After an impressive, wild victory against Liverpool in the F.A Cup, ten Hag’s boys followed up that performance with a sore-eye, lacklustre performance at Brentford. The Red Devils did not even deserve that point in all honesty.
Erik has between now and the end of the season to convince the new owners to keep him at the helm longer.
Although McKenna has come up as a possible replacement, it stands to reason perhaps INEOS will go for a manager with a much more impressive CV if they decide to sack ten Hag.
