In 2019, the Clown Prince of Crime hit our screens with Joker being played by Joaquin Phoenix. If I am being honest, the way he played the role of Joker based on what made Joker-Joker was the best I have ever witnessed. The talents of Joaquin Phoenix beautifully portrayed the pain and anguish that transitioned into macabre. All these elements made the first movie so successful that Todd Phillips is returning with a sequel. Joker 2, titled Joker: Folie À Deux, is set to release in late 2024, so in the meantime, let’s go over everything we know so far about Joker 2.
Joker 2 Release Date
Five long years after the first Joker movie, the official Joker 2 release date has been confirmed to be October 4, 2024. We know that Todd Phillips finished writing the script back in 2022. But, the production of this movie was halted in light of the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
After the strikes came to an end recently, the post-production of Joker 2 was fast-tracked by Warner Bros Studios. According to certain reports, Joker: Folie À Deux has doubled the budget compared to the first Joker movie so we can expect this one to be even bigger and crazier than the last one.
Cast of Joker 2: Are there any New Characters?
Joker: Folie À Deux has laid out a pretty interesting list of cast members and characters. The list of actors who will appear in Joker 2 has been revealed officially. Although they have not revealed what characters each actor will be playing, we do know that we will get to see Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Joker 2 along with Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker.

One of the most surprising cast reveals of Joker: Folie À Deux is the inclusion of Lady Gaga. Earlier we did not know what role she would be playing but that led to this surprising reveal. Earlier, Todd Phillps had announced that Joker 2 is going to be a partial musical, so casting Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn seems to be pointing in that direction.
In the above tweet, Lady Gaga can be seen as Harley Quinn. However, her version of the character seems to be pretty different compared to that of Margot Robbie’s adaptation. Now all that’s left for us to do is wait for the screening of Joker 2 to see what Lady Gaga has for us in store.
Zazie Beetz is going to reprise her role as Sophie Drummond and other actors who are going to appear in Joker 2 in unspecified roles are Brendan Gleeson, Jacob Lofland, Catherine Keener, and Harry Lawtey. Here is the confirmed Joker 2 cast list so far:

Joker 2 Plot (Speculated)
As far as the plot of Joker 2 is concerned, I have certain theories revolving around it. Earlier it was revealed that a chunk of Joker: Folie À Deux will be set in Arkham itself and that it is going to be a partial musical. If that’s the case, casting Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Joker 2 makes sense.
It seems that in this movie, Joker will be captured and put into Arkham Asylum for causing a riot. As far as I think, the musical elements of the movie are going to be in Joker’s head itself.
We might get to see Joker escape from Arkham Asylum and grow into the “Clown Prince of Crime.” Along with this, I believe that Harley Quinn’s story will run parallel to that of Joker since the title Joker: Folie À Deux translates to “delusion or mental illness shared by two people in close association.
If you are unaware of Harley Quinn’s character arc, she was a psychologist at Arkham Asylum whose real name was Harleen Quinzel. She was assigned to diagnose Joker. However, she found him quite relatable and fell in love with him eventually going insane as well.
In this movie, we might get to see Harleen Quinzel gradually turning into Harley Quinn. Joker 2 might present us with how Joker and Harley “share” the same mental illness. This might result in them eventually coming together justifying the title of this movie.
