Path of Exile 2 adds many great QoL changes that were missing initially in its predecessor. One such change is the ability to easily refund passive skill tree points by only spending some measly gold. Although Path of Exile did implement this feature in the Settlers of Kalguur, it was a way to Beta test it for Path of Exile 2. However, respeccing is still locked at the beginning of Path of Exile 2, confusing players on how to use it. Let’s make it easier for you by telling you how to respec in Path of Exile 2.
Note:
You can only respec passive skill tree points in Path of Exile 2. The game currently doesn’t allow respeccing your chosen class or ascendancy.
1. Unlock the Hooded One NPC
To respect passive skill points in Path of Exile 2, you will need to unlock ‘The Hooded One’ NPC by progressing the main story in Act 1. The quest you need to finish is named The Mysterious Shade. This quest is fairly difficult, featuring three big boss fights — Draven the Eternal Praector, Asina the Praector’s Consort, and Lachlann of Endless Lament.
After defeating all three of these bosses, you will have to head back to Clearfell Encampment town and speak with Una to revive the Hooded One.
To start this quest, you must find the Hooded One in the Grelwood area, where Una will ask you to break his chains. This will start the entire chain of quests, which will eventually unlock him in the town area.
2. Respec Your Skill Points
After you have unlocked the Hooded One in Path of Exile 2, simply speak with the Hooded One NPC in the Clearfell Encampment town and select the Refund Passives option. This will open the Passive skill tree.
Select the skill point you want to refund, and it will show the gold required to refund it. Click on Apply Refunds to confirm it. Now, you can open the Passive Skill tree again and allocate the skill points as you want.
So, that’s it. Hopefully, you will now be able to respec your character the way you want. If you have any further questions about Path of Exile 2, ask us in the comments, and we will try to help you out.
