Expert Italian journalist today revealed that it is ‘only a matter of time’ before Manchester United take a big step towards their summer transfer plans.
Romano was speaking in reference to United closing in on signing Jason Wilcox.
The former Man City academy executive was set to be handed the technical director, but his most recent employers Southampton were not as open to negotiations and Wilcox sensationally stepped down to force a move.
“I can guarantee to you once again that Jason Wilcox will be the new technical director of Manchester United. The agreement between Wilcox and Man United is in place, and he has informed Southampton about his desire to join the Red Devils,” Romano wrote for the Daily Briefing.
“Now it’s time to understand about the compensation fee and the timing between Southampton and Man United to make the Wilcox deal happen, but he’s already resigned,” Romano concluded.
He also addressed rumours of North West rivals Liverpool trying to hijack the move for Wilcox, brandishing them all nothing but rumours.
“Reports about Liverpool are not true, from what I heard. Wilcox is not going to Liverpool and never had a concrete negotiation with them. Liverpool have different ideas, and he only wanted Manchester United,” Romano wrote.
He also gave an update on how talks with Newcastle United are ongoing for sporting director Dan Ashworth who is on gardening leave.
Romano stated negotiations are indeed ongoing, but he termed them as somewhat ‘tense’. He did go on to add that all the delay and hold up United are suffering could indeed be hurtful in the long run – the summer transfer window that is.
“This delay can of course make the process slower in terms of the club’s strategy, but the vision will always be there thanks to the co-owners and new people at the club,” he said.
The process of rebuilding a structure, or building the structure for that matter for Sir Jim and INEOS is taking shape, although it may be going slower than they anticipated on account of hold-ups like this one.
