All GTA 5 Characters Names

A game’s story mode is built by introducing impactful characters. Like all its other games, Rockstar successfully delivered this in Grand Theft Auto V as well. Although there are three playable protagonists, the side characters and interactive NPCs play a major role in the game’s progression. GTA 5 Main Characters

Let us start the GTA 5 character guide with our beloved protagonists: Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. While all of them are available as playable characters, you must progress through the story to unlock them. Once you unlock them, you can switch characters in GTA 5 to play any of them.

Michael De Santa

• Date of Birth: November 25, 1965 (gravestone)/ 1968 (mentioned by friends)
• Played By: Ned Luke

The story of GTA 5 revolves mostly around the main character, Michael Townley, aka Michael De Santa. In the game’s prologue, he is one of the three playable characters who betrayed his best friend, Trevor. However, as the story progresses, it is revealed that Michael was trapped by the FBI into making a deal that helped him get his new identity. With his wife, Amanda, spending all the money away, Townley jumped back into the world of crime.

Franklin Clinton

• Date of Birth: June 11, 1988
• Played By: Shawn Fonteno

Along with Michael De Santa and Trevor Philips, Franklin Clinton is a central playable character in GTA 5 and is well-liked by players. He was raised in Los Santos and, before his tragic meeting with Michael on a repossession job, was a member of a gang with Lamar Davis. As a result, Franklin and Trevor formed a partnership in which Michael served as a mentor to Franklin, who even showed his loyalty by saving Michael several times.

Trevor Philips

• Date of Birth: November 14, 1967
• Played By: Steven Ogg

Playable in Grand Theft Auto 5 alongside Michael De Santa and Franklin Clinton, Trevor Philips is a volatile former bank robber and drug lord. Trevor is the most ruthless and insane of the GTA 5 trio. He owns Trevor Philips Enterprises in Blaine County and is well-known for his fiery temper and deep emotional reserves.

When Trevor reunites with Michael in Los Santos after nine years of mistakenly thinking he was dead, it leads to a string of heists during which he also develops a mentoring relationship with Franklin.

GTA 5 Antagonist Characters

A good story needs good villains to make it good, and GTA 5 nailed that part. While the whole of Los Santos is filled with drug lords and gangs, you encounter plenty of iconic antagonists throughout the story. Here are all the GTA 5 villain characters.

Devin Weston

• Date of Birth: August 17, 1962
• Played By: Jonathan Walker

Billionaire business tycoon Devin Weston serves as the primary antagonist in GTA 5. Living without restraint, he manipulates Michael, Franklin, and Trevor through unpaid repo jobs and corrupt dealings with agent Steve Haines. His betrayal and threats against Michael’s family ultimately lead to the protagonists’ vengeful retaliation.

Steve Haines

• Date of Birth: February 16, 1975
• Played By: Robert Bogue

Federal Investigation Bureau agent Steve Haines is another main villain character in GTA 5. Introduced by Dave Norton, Haines manipulates Michael, Franklin, and Trevor into performing his illicit tasks by leveraging his influence over Norton. Ultimately, Haines orders Franklin to assassinate Trevor, believing him to be the biggest threat.

Wei Cheng

• Date of Birth: 1949
• Played By: George Cheung

Wei Cheng was the leader of the Chinese Triads in GTA 5. His organization aimed to establish the business operations in Blaine County. Wei Cheng occasionally sends his son, Tao Cheng, to oversee matters in Blaine County. This is where Trevor meets Tao for the first time.

Harold “Stretch” Joseph

• Date of Birth: January 1, 1973
• Played By: Hassan Johnson

Harold Joseph, an antagonist in GTA 5 and is referred to as the character Stretch. He begins his story as a friend of Franklin Clinton and Lamar Davis, but betrays them later. After Stretch is released from prison for unknown offenses, Franklin loses faith in him, but Lamar still thinks highly of him. By the end of the game, Franklin gets rid of Stretch because he keeps causing them problems.

Tao Cheng

• Date of Birth: December 1, 1987
• Played By: Richard Hsu

Tao Cheng, son of the Los Santos triad leader Wei Cheng, is a supporting villain character in GTA 5. His initial appearance is during Trevor Philips Industries’ mission alongside his translator during a meeting with Trevor. He is later reencountered in the Crystal Maze mission.

Molly Schultz

• Date of Birth: March 28, 1981
• Played By: Elizabeth Mason

Molly Schultz served as Devin Weston’s lawyer and a minor antagonist in Grand Theft Auto 5. While she stays mainly by the main villain’s side, her participation makes our protagonist’s life harder. She infamously stole Michael’s film reel, leading to a fatal chase where she was sucked into a jet engine. Trevor Phillips displayed a noticeable infatuation with her character.

Other GTA 5 Key Characters

Apart from the protagonists and villains, several key characters in the game take on essential roles. This includes the friends and families of the main characters in GTA 5. While you don’t get to see or play as them throughout, they are involved in different quests. Here are all the characters’ names who play a key part in GTA 5’s story:

Amanda De Santa

• Date of Birth: September 15, 1974
• Played By: Vicki Van Tassel

Amanda and Michael met at a strip club and developed a close relationship, eventually dating. They married after Amanda became pregnant with Tracey and later had Jimmy. Following a deal with the FIB, they relocated to Los Santos under the De Santa alias. Still, their nine-year marriage deteriorated due to mutual animosity stemming from past mistreatment and infidelity.

Jimmy De Santa

• Date of Birth: January 1, 1995
• Played By: Danny Tamberelli

Jimmy De Santa is Michael and Amanda De Santa’s son in GTA 5. He is described as a “whiny, lazy pothead”. Often finding himself in trouble, requiring Michael’s intervention, Jimmy’s relationship with his father improves throughout the game. Typically seen at home gaming, on his laptop, or watching TV, he slowly developed his character into someone you just might like.

Tracey De Santa

• Date of Birth: April 27, 1990
• Played By: Michal Sinnott

While Tracey doesn’t play a significant role in the game, her early difficulties made Michael return to the crime world. Trevor and Michael save her from difficult situations multiple times throughout the game. So that’s another GTA 5 character’s name.

Dave Norton

• Date of Birth: January 27, 1958
• Played By: Julian Gamble

Dave Norton is a corrupt FIB agent and a key character in GTA 5. He works under Steve Haines and facilitated Michael’s escape from his criminal past and relocation to Los Santos with a new identity in exchange for his assistance in taking down Trevor and Brad.

Lester Crest

• Date of Birth: February 13, 1960
• Played By: Jay Klaitz

Lester Crest is a key character in GTA 5. He is the mastermind behind the protagonists’ heists and operations. Known as “the guy in the chair,” he provides crucial planning and support. He has a history with Michael from their earlier criminal endeavors in North Yankton.

Lamar Davis

• Date of Birth: December 3, 1987
• Played By: Slink Johnson

Lamar Davis is Franklin Clinton’s loyal but often troublesome best friend in GTA 5. He is deeply committed to the Families gang and frequently challenges Franklin’s gang allegiance and involves him in ill-fated criminal activities.

Denise Clinton

• Date of Birth: July 28, 1969
• Played By: Janet Hubert

Denise Clinton, Franklin’s aunt, is a supporting character in GTA 5 with whom he resides in Strawberry, Los Santos. Their relationship is strained, marked by Franklin’s annoyance at her behavior, though she attempts to guide him away from trouble and towards loyalty to his original gang.

Tanisha Jackson

• Date of Birth: March 19, 1988
• Played By: Yasha Jackson

Tanisha Jackson is the ex-girlfriend of the protagonist Franklin Clinton. She makes one in-person appearance but primarily communicates with Franklin via email, text, or phone calls. She is just a minor character in GTA 5 and doesn’t add anything significant to the plot. However, her involvement keeps dragging Franklin into the gang wars.

Chop

• Date of Birth: June 16, 2008
• Played By: Unknown

Chop, Franklin Clinton’s Rottweiler in GTA 5, is owned by Lamar but resides at Franklin’s Vinewood Hills home. This canine companion can be taken for walks and plays a minor role in some missions, where players can briefly control him to locate targets or hidden items.

Wade Hebert

• Date of Birth: January 11, 1981
• Played By: Matthew Maher

Wade Hebert is Trevor Philips’ loyal sidekick and friend in GTA 5. He is introduced as part of their Sandy Shores trio with Ron Jakowski. He diligently follows Trevor’s orders and is responsible for discovering Michael De Santa’s existence in Los Santos, remaining a steadfast assistant throughout their criminal endeavors.

Dr. Friedlander

• Date of Birth: Unknown
• Played By: Bryan Scott Johnson

Dr. Isiah Friedlander is Michael De Santa’s therapist in GTA 5. He appears early in the game for weekly sessions, which are sometimes conducted remotely. Later, he discontinues therapy due to his new TV show. Despite his short appearances, he shares the screen with the GTA 5 trio in multiple missions.

Ron Jakowski

• Date of Birth: February 2, 1973
• Played By: David Mogentale

Ron Jakowski, Trevor Philips’ loyal friend, transitions from accountant to CEO of Trevor Philips Industries, a role Trevor entrusted to him before his departure for Los Santos. This reflects Trevor’s trust and dependence on Ron, who also hosts a podcast on Blaine County Talk Radio.
