Zamfara’s Gov. Lawal presents N423.5 billion appropriation bill for 2024

Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, on Thursday, presented a N423.5 billion Appropriation Bill to the state House of Assembly for the 2024 fiscal year.

Presenting the budget, tagged ‘’The Rescue Budget”, Mr Lawal said the financial document made elaborate provisions to address the urgent needs of the state.

He said that the allocations to the various sectors of the economy had been made in the budget estimates, after careful consideration by the Executive Estimates Committee of the state.

He said that the budget proposal provides N118.1 billion for recurrent expenditure and N305.4 billion for capital expenditure.

He further said that the bill was strategically crafted to focus on six key sectors of priority: security, education, agriculture, economic growth, health and infrastructure.

“These areas are pivotal in propelling Zamfara towards ensuring development,” the governor said.

He said that his administration had introduced new policies aimed at enhancing public service.

He said that the implementation of the 2023 budget recorded modest achievements, considering the downturn of economic activities in the country.

“On the overall performance, the total of N78.2 billion has so far been realised as accrued revenue, which stands at about 41.2 per cent,” the governor further said.

Responding, the Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki, described the budget proposal as timely and a welcome development.

Mr Moriki assured the governor of timely approval of the budget proposal by the assembly.

He also affirmed the lawmakers’ commitment towards the success of the rescue policy of the present administration in the state.
