“And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it” – Habbaku 2:2, was the opening premise of the charge given by Mr Joseph Edet to Cross River’s first indigenous University graduating set, Arthur Javis.
As one of the major facilitator in the organized career week for the graduating class with an array of speakers, Mr Joseph Edet ‘Lashakara’, one of Governor Ben Ayade’s frontline appointees serving as the Managing Director of the Summit Hills Development Estate and also overseeing the Cross River State Garment Factory as the Acting Managing Director, Edet spoke on ‘Youth and their Role in Politics, a Panacea for Good Governance’.
Edet buttressed on the need for young people to rise up to the challenge and field in for responsibilities without necessary waiting for a push or an opportunity which is said it is never given but must be taken.
While charging the audience to take up responsibility and be part of the Nigerian political system, he decried the systemic failure overtime, “you are the first herald of your vision, the world out there needs you to come and change how the system has been”, he said.
“You are the Zee Generation that we have been waiting for.
It is you that we need to come into the political spheres and change things”, he added.
He further called for a recitation of the lines which he termed, the take over mandate and it reads thus;
“I am the change and it starts with me.
I will not sit by the sidelines.
I will contribute my own quote to the betterment of the world”.
Joseph Edet persuaded the young graduands after conducting a survey of those who own voters card to find a political party and get affiliated with, noting that the dreams of our heroes’ past cannot be actualized without the involvement of sound oriented minds like theirs who have constantly played the back role, giving room to mediocrity to dominate the system.
The MD outlayed a comparative analysis of youth involvement in the Big Brother Naija TV show as against the Nigerian State elections which is supposed to be the true focal point of every youth in the country.
The analysis displayed by Mr Edet revealed that over 20 million votes were casted for the program with over N900 million raked in for just the Grand finale to determine who the winner is, noting that the youth had both the numbers and the economic power to take over the mainstream of politics if they can first develop an interest and a unity front.
As his parting message he said, “one thing I have learnt is that if we connect our voices and speak in one acçord, we can move mountains”
