Yobe at 30: Governor Buni’s Landmark Achievements

Yobe State was carved out of Borno State on August 27, 1991, by the then-president General Ibrahim Babangida with its capital in Damaturu. The State shares borders with Borno State to the east, Gombe State to the south, Bauchi and Jigawa States to the East and Niger Republic to the north.

Last week, Yobe state joined its contemporaries states in celebrating its statehood. There is no doubt that both military Administrators and civilian Governors of the state had placed Yobe on the path of development. Within 30 years of statehood, the state had four military Administrators and five civilians Governors. Colonel Sani Ahmed Daura military Administrator, Police Commissioner Dabo Aliyu, Col Ben Kalio, Col. Musa Mohammed, Bukar Abba Ibrahim – January 1992 -November 1993, SDP, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, ANPP, Mamman Ali ANPP, Ibrahim Gaidam ANPP/APC and current Governor Mai Mala Buni APC.

Taking into consideration of 30 years of statehood of Yobe, the state is lucky to have a visionary leader who has a development plan steadily but surely building a foundation for the progress of the state with varied futuristic public policies targeting the development of the state’s public infrastructure, commercial, industrial and others.

Upon taking the Oath of Office on 29th May 2019, Governor Mai Mala Buni assured the people’s anticipations from within and outside the state – their expectations for consolidation and continuity would not only be sustained but new projects would be introduced to change their lives.

He also pledged to the people of Yobe state that his administration will be responsive to the needs of the people and will continue to pay special attention to the security of lives and property, provide quality healthcare delivery, and improve education, agricultural production, infrastructural development, revived moribund state own industries and set out its priorities with a declaration of a state of emergency on basic and secondary education. Other Resettlement, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (R3), for the people affected by insurgency to live a life of honour and dignity.

The administration proffers its commitments to create employment opportunities to stimulate the economy for improved revenue generation, and industrialize the state for greater wealth creation as now the administration revived resuscitate and upgrade government-owned companies like Gujba Fertiliser Blending Plant, Polythene, Woven Sacks Factory, and the Yobe Flour and Feed Mills and the Sahel Aluminium Companies to production.

The State has witnessed unprecedented infrastructural development, since the administration came to power in 2019 the administration constructed New Township Roads, Housing, Modern Markets in major towns and provide befitting Trailer Park in Potiskum and complete projects inherited from the former administration.

After 30 years of yobe as the state, now healthcare delivery in the state has witnessed unprecedented change as the people of the state can access the best state-of-the-art medical facilities and equipment to provide the best health services to the people by HMB. The current administration has demonstrated its true passion for issues concerning peoples and the state as a whole; he worked passionately to address matters of great concern to the Yobeans and quickly earned a reputation as a Hard-working and People’s Governor.

Taking into consideration of 30 years of statehood of Yobe, the state is lucky to have a leader with vision so a visionary leader should be celebrated for his valuable contribution to humanity. Hon Mai Mala Buni’s nickname “the Stabilizer”, amongst supporters within and outside the state as he has also been a constant, stabilizing factor in the state.

For HMB, the purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and that will help others and always the present administration has shown its commitments in the prevailing interest of the masses. should not be sacrificed either on the altar of political expediency or in pursuit of a narrow selfish agenda of those who operate the levers of authority.

Among his contemporaries Governors serving the state, Governor Mai Mala Buni’s leadership is a reflection of the thoughts of Muhammad Bello Danfodio where he says “If the Almighty Allah wishes people good, He gives leadership in their affairs to the best of them. HMB displayed high and esteemed leadership qualities which endeared to the people of the state. His political vision and character have been informed and guided by like late Aminu Kano’s this philosophy of emancipation and improving lives of the masses. To improve state internal security the administration also pays a high premium on public security and it is not only supporting federal security agencies.

In fact Hon Mala Buni’s administration has earned the trust and confidence of many people within and outside the state as well as his party. He is charting a new course of state and his work simply speaks for it. There is a consensus that the government is working for the Yobeans as the state celebrates 30years of statehood on the 27th of August 2021.
