There was a special sense of pride and excitement in the fighting game community when we first learned some of the voices we’ve come to know and love would be immortalized as in-game commentators in Street Fighter 6, and shades of those same feelings are now pointed in the direction of Michael “IFC|Yipes” Mendoza.
The long time FGC beloved has made a name both as a player and commentator, but now he’s doing the same on the musical side of things as he’s featured on a track in the NBA 2K24 soundtrack, which you can hear below.
The song is called “Finish My Plate” and is jam-packed with inside fighting game lingo and references.
Fans of our favorite genre will surely recognize terms like “Dragon Punch” and “whiff punish,” and we were especially hype about Yipes’ line “If ya homies jumpin’ in, then that’s an anti-air.”
It’s one (absolutely magical) thing to have familiar voices appear in a Street Fighter game, and to have an FGC member appear in a less niche franchise like NBA 2K (predecessor NBA 2K23 has sold over 11 million copies) feels like the breaking through of yet another mold.
From playing Nba2k,2k1 with allen iverson on the covers….to having a track in Nba2k24 is wild to me….
Shout outs to my guys @4ord20 @graphbeats @dustymanip for making music with me!
@NBA2K THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR THE LOVE!
