Mortal Kombat 1 is nearing the end of its first year of content. Kombat Pack 1 is about to wrap up with the simultaneous release of main roster DLC character Takeda and Kameo Fighter Ferra. So what’s next?
Well, apparently it won’t be long before we can answer this question as NetherRealm Studios is gearing up to make some announcements later this month at San Diego Comic-Con. The official Mortal Kombat Twitter page put out a tweet just a few moments ago that shares details on when the next info drop is set to take place.
“What lies beyond the horizon? Join us at #SDCC2024 to see what the future holds for #MK1,” wrote the game’s official Twitter account.
At the time of writing this, we know that both Takeda and Ferra will be released on the same day, July 23, via early access for Kombat Pack and Premium Edition owners. Normally, Ferra was supposed to be released earlier than that, but NetherRealm came forward and stated that they needed more time with her development, so they moved her release back to match Takeda’s.
Right now, we do not know what the plan is for Mortal Kombat 1 beyond its first year of DLC and its first Kombat Pack. The panel at San Diego Comic-Con will be changing that, however.
According to today’s announcement, the folks behind MK1 will be holding a panel at SDCC on Friday, July 26, just a few days after the early access release of its next main roster and Kameo Fighter DLC. The panel is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. PT and is expected to run for one hour.
When it comes to fighting game panels at Comic-Con, there’s some good news and there’s some bad news. The bad news is, generally, these panels are not live streamed and if you want to see them in full, you’ll usually have to be in attendance, in person.
The good news is, those in attendance often do things like live tweeting and some even attempt to stream it themselves via phones and mobile devices, so either way, we should have all of the latest reveals from San Diego Comic-Con soon after they take place.
Everyone is expecting a full-on Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat 1, and that should be a fairly safe bet. However, which characters are going to be added to the game and how many in the next wave of DLC is still a mystery that we hopefully get answers to come July 26.
NetherRealm previously revealed their entire Kombat Pack 1 line up up front with a teaser trailer that briefly showed all six of the main roster DLC characters. It was announced that Omni-Man, Peacemaker, Homelander, Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda would be joining the fight as additional content, and with that initial reveal, we learned that there would also be five new Kameo Fighters, though we didn’t get the identities of them at the time.
Capcom also revealed their full Street Fighter 6 Season 2 DLC line up detailing that M. Bison, Elena, and guest characters Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui will be entering the fray over the course of the next year. If we do see a full reveal for Mortal Kombat 1 at San Diego Comic-Con, there’s a solid chance we’ll see the full character line up for the next Kombat Pack.
Back in December, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon also confirmed that Mortal Kombat 1 will be getting a DLC story mode expansion similar to what we saw with Mortal Kombat 11’s transition into Aftermath. So there is a good chance we could learn more about it at SDCC.
