Hokutomaru was recently revealed to be the final character of the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves base roster. Of course, we have an interesting lineup of DLC characters that are planned for Season 1, including Street Fighter’s Ken and Chun-Li.
Even as a big fan of Ryu, it is cool to see other Street Fighter combatants getting the guest character treatment over the typical “poster boy” of the series. However, it turns out that Ken and Chun-Li weren’t the only Capcom guests being considered for the spots on the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves character select screen.
Yasuyuki Oda of SNK recently took part of an interesting interview with Famitsu. It was during this event where he revealed the challengers from the Street Fighter series that he personally would’ve liked to see.
“Are there any other Street Fighter characters you wanted to include?” asked Famitsu at one point in the discussion.
“There are lots, so the discussions among our staff never stopped… ha ha,” responded Oda. “Personally, I felt like Sagat or Nash would be good, and then another staff member said ‘I want Sodom and Rolento,’ and there was just no end to it… ha ha.”
Sagat has had quite the reputation as a top tier zoning character throughout various Street Fighter entries, though this status didn’t really follow him into Street Fighter 5. Regardless, he’d probably give Kain R. Heinlein a run for his money as the top zoning character in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves if he were also included.
Nash’s last appearance was in Street fighter 5. It certainly would’ve been interesting to see him return again as it was implied at the end of that game’s story mode that Nash had died — then again, nobody ever truly stays dead in the Street Fighter universe.

Rolento’s last appearance was in Street Fighter X Tekken and Ultra Street Fighter 4. Of course, he and Sodom actually both originated from the Final Fight series before they transitioned into Street Fighter games.
Sodom would’ve been a particularly interesting combatant considering that we haven’t really seen him since the days of Street Fighter Alpha 3. For the longest time, rumors seemed to suggest that he’d be playable in Street Fighter 5, but it never actually happened.
While it would seem that Ken and Chun-Li were the chosen fighters this time, there’s always the possibility that some of these candidates can show up in future seasons of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Supposedly, the developers plan to support the game for at least three years.
We’ll just have to see how things play out from here. Perhaps someday we’ll get characters like Sagat, Nash, Rolento, and Sodom into the mix.
