After literally months of dedication and the best Street Fighter 5 players in Japan duking it out day after day, the Topanga Championship 4 finally came to a close yesterday, and boy golly was that a grand finale.

Rohto|Tokido and BST|Fuudo ended up as the last 2 standing with their epic championship set taking all 19 games to declare a winner that’s definitely worth watching.

While many competitors have moved away from Birdie over the past year or 2 following his nerfs and lack of changes, Fuudo continued to stick by the character and show everyone that the big guy can still go blow-for-blow against arguably the best fighter in SF5 now in Luke being piloted by one of the best players in the world.

As a first to 10 wins set, it’s fascinating to see Tokido and Fuudo approach their games as a long endurance match of chess that tested both of their mental fortitudes and execution.

Tokido would start out strong taking a 2-0 advantage by punishing most of Birdie’s attempts to close the distance, but Fuudo would claw his way back to tie it up immediately again.

As their adaptations progressed, it was cool to see some more creative punishes and setups come into play like Tokido punishing Birdie’s V-Trigger activation with Luke’s own into Rock Smasher while Fuudo began to armor through more of his opponent’s projectiles.

The Street Fighter legends traded 2 games back and forth up until game 10 where Fuudo would swap characters to Poison and take his first lead by winning 3 games in a row.

Things would somehow get even tighter between the players from there with each only trading a single game back and forth afterwards packed with close rounds, time outs and unlikely comebacks.

It would take the duo 1 hour and 15 minutes of trying to outwit and outpace each other to reach the final 19th game, but only 1 could walk away victorious and with a lot more cash in his pocket.

We won’t spoil who wins for those who want to watch it for themselves, and the full long set can be found here on the Topanga TV Twitch archive, which we suggest checking out even if you just want to skip around and see how the players change their approaches as the games went on.
