Xavi Simons Manchester United transfer update given

Manchester United have issued an update on their plans to acquire RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons.

Simons was originally signed on loan to Leipzig while on a four-year contract at PSG, but that move was made permanent in January this year.

Simons has since flourished at Leipzig in his attacking midfield role after signing a permanent deal with the club for £42.1M.

With 7 goals and 5 assists in hand for The Red Bulls so far this season, the young star has progressed to catch the eye of many big European clubs.

Interest in the Dutch player circulates at Old Trafford after United boss Ruben Amorim named Simons as a potential target for the upcoming summer transfer window earlier this week.

Simons has demonstrated his skill and versatility in the midfield for every club for whom he has played, and would make a strong contribution to the Red Devils after their current struggles to compete.

However, news from Old Trafford depicts a large, and possibly deal-breaking, obstruction to the possibility of Simons moving there this summer.

According to GiveMeSport, “any deal for United to sign Simons is a ‘non-starter’ – with his £67.5Mvaluation being enough to deter any interest from the Red Devils this summer.”

The total for United’s new player signings has already exceeded £286M, and will continue to grow as the summer transfer window fast approaches.

The root of United’s financial struggles, of course, came after ex-United manager Eric ten Hag spent £600M in his two years at Old Trafford.

With the cost of Amorim’s plans to revitalise his club’s chances of Champions League qualification next season racking up, the opportunity to sign a player with such a large price tag, unfortunately, moves beyond reach.
