World Teachers’ Day 2025 Message from the Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, OFR, CON, LL.D., SAN

Dear Colleagues,

On this World Teachers’ Day, I extend my deepest respect to the faculty of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) and, by extension, to teachers everywhere. You are the custodians of knowledge, the stewards of character, and the architects of a future that is yet to be built. Our society rests on strength of your intellect, your labour, and your sacrifice.

Education, at its truest, extends beyond the delivery of lectures, the passing of examinations, or the awarding of certificates. It is the deliberate cultivation of discipline, the transmission of values, and the formation of vision. It establishes purpose, strengthens commitment to service, and prepares leaders who are not passive inheritors of society but active contributors to its advancement. Genuine education equips students to analyse challenges with clarity, address them with courage, and generate solutions that are sustainable and socially relevant. Every lecture presented, every thesis supervised, and every student supported is a strategic investment in human capital, national development, and the global future we share.

This year’s theme, “Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession,” calls us to recognise that education thrives in community. Knowledge expands when shared, innovation advances through co-operation, and progress is secured only when educators work in concert across disciplines, institutions, and borders. Collaboration is the force that multiplies impact, ensuring that education remains resilient, equitable, and inclusive. Together, we must shape FUOYE into a university of global standing: an institution where knowledge produces wisdom, where a commitment to advancing society drives our research and innovation, and where leadership is defined by integrity and character.

I am mindful that the responsibility you carry is weighty, often demanding sacrifice without immediate recognition. Yet it is in your lecture halls, laboratories, libraries and offices that the future is created. As Pro-Chancellor, I affirm that your work is not invisible. It is valued, indispensable, and the true measure of our institutional strength. I remain committed to working with the University leadership to build/sustain an environment where educators can thrive, professional growth is encouraged, contributions are honoured, and excellence is the standard.

Once again, I celebrate your resilience, your brilliance, and your devotion to the noble calling of teaching. May your efforts continue to transform lives, elevate scholarship, and bring pride to our university, our nation, and the wider world.

Yours in service,

Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, OFR, CON, LL.D., SAN
