On the occasion of the 2025 International Day of Peace, the Member representing Abi State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Davies Etta, has reiterated his commitment to fostering peace and reconciliation within Abi Local Government Area.

In a statement reflecting on the significance of the day, Etta emphasized the urgent need for healing and dialogue in a region deeply affected by communal conflicts.

He acknowledged the painful disputes involving communities such as Ebom and Ebijakara, Ediba and Usumutong, and Adadama and Ekureku, which have left lasting scars on families, disrupted livelihoods, and hindered developmental progress in Abi. “No community truly wins in war, everyone loses,” he stated.

Etta pledged to work collaboratively with government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society organizations to address the root causes of the conflicts. He called on all communities to reject violence and adopt dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation as tools for lasting peace. According to him, peace is essential as a foundation for education, commerce, agriculture, and overall progress, without which the aspirations for Abi cannot be realized.

The lawmaker urged residents of Abi to seize this International Day of Peace as a turning point for reconciliation and unity, assuring them of his ongoing support for policies and initiatives that promote peace and development. “May peace reign in Abi, and may peace reign in Nigeria,” he concluded.
