Women’s FA Cup semi-finals: Manchester United to host Brighton, Chelsea to face Aston Villa
Manchester United will host Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa will face Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.
Villa beat last season’s runners up Manchester City 2-1 in extra time at the Bescot Stadium on Sunday. Rachel Corsie’s first-half goal was cancelled out by Deyna Castellanos, before Rachel Daly scored a 97th-minute winner for Villa.
Chelsea secured their place in the semi-finals with a 3-1 victory at Reading. Jess Carter, Maren Mjelde and Guro Reiten were on the scoresheet for the reigning FA Cup champions before Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen netted a consolation for Reading. Chelsea are the only previous winners remaining in the competition.
Manchester United progressed to the semi-finals with a 3-1 win over Championship side Lewes. A Rhian Cleverly own goal and Vilde Boe Risa strike had given United a 2-0 lead before Emily Kraft halved the deficit. Nikita Parris put the game beyond Lewes with an 89th-minute goal.
Brighton beat Birmingham 2-0 at St Andrew’s to book their semi-final spot thanks to first-half goals from Poppy Pattinson and Danielle Carter.
When are the Women’s FA Cup semi-finals?
Both ties will take place on Sunday, April 16. The matches will be played at Manchester United and Villa’s home grounds.
When is the Women’s FA Cup final?
The final takes place on Sunday, May 14 and will be hosted at Wembley Stadium. Wembley has been the stage of the final since 2015.
