May 20, 2024 MANHATTAN, New York – A woman was killed after being viciously stabbed repeatedly with a box cutter allegedly by a disgruntled ex boyfriend early Monday morning, cops said.
Shirley Rodriguez, 29, was rushed by EMS to Harlem hospital after being stabbed multiple times in the face, neck, and shoulder but did not survive and was pronounced deceased, officials said.
We spoke with people who live on the block including some who heard a woman screaming for help and others who mentioned actually witnessing the immediate aftermath of the horrific scene.
A man who lives nearby spoke with us and said the woman’s ex boyfriend was stabbing her over and over. He said the suspect would not stop stabbing the victim, describing it as straight out of a horror movie, “her face was all red bloody and disfigured” the neighborhood resident who lives nearby said.
He also stated that the suspect ran away after people tried to intervene. The witness said the suspect ran towards an apartment building for Columbia University student housing.
That’s where police radio says the suspect jumped down an overgrown grassy hill leading towards a road and highway on the back side of the building.
There are no arrests as of Monday afternoon for the fatal incident reported near West 175th Street and Haven Avenue in Washington Heights neighborhood at around 5:40 a.m., according to the NYPD.
The investigation is ongoing and medical examiner will determine cause of death.
