September 10, 2024 MANHATTAN, New York – A woman was shot and killed during a robbery inside an apartment building in the Chinatown neighborhood in Manhattan, Monday evening, cops said.
According to police officials, Ying Zhu Liu, 57, was shot in the head during an altercation between two suspected gunmen and her husband in an 8th floor hallway late Monday night.
Yings’s husband told investigators that two unknown men followed him into the apartment building and rode the elevator to the 8th floor with him. Once they exited the elevator that’s when the brazen duo got violent and tried to rob the man.
Police say the 57-year-old wife of the man being robbed went to check on her husband after hearing commotion in the hallway. Ying stepped out of the apartment with her son and possibly foiled the robbery when she was struck in the face by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene, cops said.
Mrs. Liu was found deceased just after 11 p.m., in a hallway on the eighth-floor of the Two Bridges building where she lived with her family, located at 44 Market Street in the lower Manhattan, police said.
The ski mask wearing suspects fled from the eighth floor hallway following the shooting and only left with a cell phone that belonged to the husband of Mrs. Liu, according to officials.
No arrests at this time, a manhunt for the suspected gunmen is ongoing as NYPD Detectives worked through the evening into the early morning canvassing for clues into the heinous murder that has left a Lower East Side community reeling.
