Brass is often seen as the quintessential 21st anniversary gift for those who lean towards tradition. So, when Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. celebrated this milestone last September, they may have thought about sending a hefty piece of this metal to a dear friend.
Why, you ask? Well, if their mutual buddy hadn’t missed her flight to the west coast on that pivotal day in January 2000, things might have been different. The duo, known for their roles in “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, might have continued their friendship, sharing the occasional meal and nothing more.
But fate had other plans. With their dinner date a no-show, Gellar and Prinze decided to meet anyway. “We decided to still meet and catch up,” Gellar revealed on Instagram.
Their venue of choice? Asanebo, a high-end sushi restaurant. Here, Gellar did something that left Prinze stunned. “Back in the day, Hollywood actresses weren’t big on eating. Salads were their go-to,” Prinze, who once aspired to be a chef, reminisced during a 2016 Facebook Live interview.
But Gellar was different. “Sarah came to dinner with me, and we sat down. She ate everything, even a live crab that was cooked in oil right in front of us. They called it ‘popcorn’,” he shared.
As Gellar fearlessly popped the crustacean into her mouth, something clicked for Prinze. He thought, “Yo, my girl is legit.” And the rest, as they say, is history.
