Why Installation Of New Olubadan-Designate Is Delaying — Gov Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has explained the reason behind the delay in installing Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.

During the final burial ceremony of the late Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan, Makinde stated that the installation will take place once Oba Olakulehin regains his full strength.

“I have seen the recommendation of the Olubadan-in-Council, and I have accepted it,” Makinde said. “We will, as soon as our father, Oba Olakulehin, is strong enough, enthrone him as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.”

The governor commended the selection process that led to Oba Olakulehin’s appointment, noting that due process was followed.

He also praised the late Olubadan for bringing peace to the traditional institutions in the city through the amendment of the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration Laws by the State House of Assembly.

“Myself and the House of Assembly on Friday, 26th May 2023, amended the Chieftaincy Laws of Oyo State so that the governor doesn’t need to go to the Council of Chiefs to amend the Declaration of Obas.

“Kabiyesi and I amended Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration. Those who haven’t seen it, let them go and look for it; that is the Declaration in force to enthrone the new Olubadan,” said Makinde.
