Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, as loved and cherished as it is by fans, is not a balanced fighting game. Characters like Vergil, Zero, and Dr. Doom are very clearly leaps and bounds better than fighters like Ryu or Phoenix Wright.
It’s generally accepted that Darkstalkers’ Hsien-Ko is the worst character of all in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. A video recently released by PapaLobster explains why this fighter falls short compared to the rest of the cast.
One of the most glaring issues for Hsien-Ko right off the bat is her mobility. Although her forward dash does uniquely cause her to vanish and become invincible temporarily, this comes at the heavy price of not being able to cancel her dash into attacks or perform a proper wave dash.
Compared to how Hsien-Ko was in Vampire Savior, Hsien-Ko is no longer able to cancel her swing and her air dash is dramatically slower. As such, Hsien-Ko has a hard time keeping up pressuring and converting stray hits into combos due to her mobility issues.
It’s not all bad for Hsien-Ko though. One of her Hypers turns her gold, granting her super armor until the duration expires. If the player is able to use this and then tag Hsien-Ko out, they gain access to a tremendously powerful assist.
