As we draw nearer to Season 2 the Street Fighter 6 crowd continues to discuss what kinds of alterations it most wants to see, and focus has shifted increasingly onto Perfect Parry.
Pro players like Punk have expressed distaste at how effective the maneuver is, but many others aren’t so quick to decry it as they note the importance of strong defensive options in a game that’s heavily skewed in the opposite direction. Perfect Parry happens to be the latest video subject Twisted Rivera has tackled, and he offers some interesting insight.
When Street Fighter 6 first dropped some 10 months ago (and perhaps even before that during beta tests) the general consensus was that the maneuver wasn’t all that effective. This seems to be more a result of the amount of experience people had with the game, seeing as one needs to have extremely precise timing to pull it off.
As more and more Perfect Parries started occurring the community more and more saw its potential. Though damage is matter of factly nerfed by 50% after a successful PP, the kinds of momentum swings it can offer are huge.
Perhaps one of the reasons it feels too powerful to some players is the fact that Perfect Parry is so often used during light normal strings, meaning that it adds a lot more risk to otherwise relatively low risk/reward moves.
This might lead to a sense of imbalance when someone loses their offensive momentum, positioning towards the corner, and maybe some Drive Gauge all for doing a jab, but that point of view may be a little honed into a vacuum as the way lights are used in this game (especially paired with Drive Rush) make them extremely formidable at times.
Should the whiners stop complaining or would nerfs to PP bring down the last bastion against an otherwise game-breaking offense? Check out Twisted Rivera’s thoughts via the video below and share yours in the comments.
