It’s no secret that Rashid is generally perceived to one of the best characters in Street Fighter 6 Season 2. Much of this is thanks to the properties of his level 2 super art, the Ysaar. Used correctly, it can effectively create a checkmate scenario for the opponent.
Generally speaking, the Ysaar is much more powerful in Street Fighter 6 compared to its days as a V-Trigger in Street Fighter 5. Unlike in that game, projectiles generated by super arts in Street Fighter 6 will always take priority over other types of projectiles. For most characters, this means that they pretty much just have to weather the storm while Rashid gets free reign to do whatever he wants.
However, it turns out that Ed is not one of those characters. Mouz|EndingWalker, an Ed user, found himself going up against Furia|DualKevin, a Rashid player, during Cream City Convergence 2024.
After juggling Ed with a heavy Spinning Mixer, DualKevin opted to back dash to give himself space to setup Ysaar. In most match ups, Rashid would effectively be granted an opportunity freely mount pressure against the opponent so long as the tornado persisted.
However, EndingWalker responded by immediately using Ed’s level 2 super art, the Psycho Cannon. While the two supers appear to be functionally similar on the surface, both these level 2 super arts fulfill unique purposes within these two characters’ kits.
Just like the Ysaar, the Psycho Cannon is a projectile type attack that utilizes super art prioritization with regards to projectile clashes. Unfortunately for DualKevin, the Psycho Cannon actually contains more hits than the Ysaar.
Throughout the Street Fighter series, it’s actually fairly rare to see projectile super arts clash like this, since there are usually better ways of getting around them. Of course, the Ysaar is sort of a special case in which this might be one of the only ways to safely deal with the super art.
DualKevin seemingly attempted to use Rashi’d Whirlwind Shot to overwhelm the projectile, but this actually doesn’t help like it did in previous Street Fighter entries. In the end, EndingWalker’s quick thinking led to him getting the upper hand in this exchange.
