Tyson Fury, as well as being a great boxer, is an entertainer at heart and perhaps the most charismatic heavyweight champion we have seen since Muhammad Ali.
Ali did not just save his charisma for pre-fight press conferences, but his showmanship also came out in the ring, whether it was the Ali shuffle, taunting opponents mid-fight or the infamous rope-a-dope.
We have seen Fury follow in the footsteps of Ali and channel ‘The Greatest’ on a few occasions, trying out the rope-a-dope for himself.
It doesn’t look quite as graceful and smooth coming from a 6ft 9in, 270 lbs man, but Fury gave it a good go and most importantly avoided getting hit.
The first time we saw Fury pull the rope-a-dope out of his locker was against Francesco Pianeta, showing that ‘The Gypsy King’s’ confidence had returned quickly despite it only being the second fight since his comeback to boxing in 2018.
Fury unleashed the Ali trademark once again when he fought Tom Schwarz in between his first and second fights with Deontay Wilder.
This time, Fury seemed to have refined the technique, evading six straight punches and looking a lot closer to a prime Ali.
With that being said, no one could do the rope-a-dope quite like Ali, whose cat-like reflexes would terrorise opponents, as they could not get close to ‘The Greatest’ even when they backed him into the corner.

Ali was best known for using the rope-a-dope tactic during his 1974 ‘Fight of the Year’ against George Foreman.
‘The Greatest’ would let Foreman punch himself out for the first few minutes of each round, while Ali would just sit…
