What's missing from Street Fighter 6

While it can’t be said that Street Fighter 6 doesn’t have a colorful cast of characters rife with plenty of variety to suit the needs of the majority of its player base, it can be argued that the roster is just good… not great.

That’s more or less the main message in Twisted Rivera’s latest video as he goes as far as to say the current offering of selectable characters is a huge problem.

Capcom was sure to include a handful of the franchise’s iconic (Street Fighter 2) originals such as mainstays Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Cammy. They also included iconic SF2 originals such as E. Honda and Blanka who, let’s be honest, may be recognizable but don’t have the same sized fan bases.

Ed and Rashid are back from Street Fighter 5 as DLC and while the latter might be arguably worth bringing back, the former seems to have gotten more slack than he has praise, especially for a character we have to pay extra for.

It’s one thing to make sure to hit the mainstays but a surprising amount of the roster is made up of faces we’ve seen plenty of in recent times. That’s okay, in and of itself, but when space is limited and you have more than a few fan favorites that have been on the bench for quite some time.

Fei-Long, C. Viper, Gen, everyone introduced in Street Fighter 3, for starters, would probably be more enticing than yet another go around with E. Honda, and honestly, there were probably better picks from the Street Fighter 5 newcomer pool than Ed and Rashid.

It’s subjective, sure, and maybe Capcom is a bit tied up by story threads (though a character being dead has never stopped them before) but the roster could probably use a few more interesting faces to keep the game’s decently strong momentum on the upswing.
