Despite being available for over a year now, it’s no secret that Street Fighter 6 is still lacking in terms of the number of costumes. The first batch of DLC costumes for the base roster — Outfit 3 — were announced back in December 2023. Outfit 3 for Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma, the Season 1 DLC fighters, were released alongside the Season 2 balance patch on May 22, 2024.
This means that M. Bison and Terry Bogard, the Season 2 characters released so far, only have two costumes each while the rest of the roster have no more than three. Needless to say, this has the community wondering when Outfit 4 costumes will be announced.
It turns out that Street Fighter 6 developers recently commented about Outfit 4 alternates during an interview with IGN Japan, though it was in Japanese. As such, a user on Twitter opted to turn this into a joke by falsely indicating that Capcom was planning for these costumes to be released in late 2026. It was meant to be a satire.
However, many who saw this took it as a serious statement. Funnily enough, this resulted in Capcom issuing a statement that basically said that what was actually said in the interview had been distorted on Twitter. They then encouraged fans to cite official announcements as correct information.
So what did Capcom really say during that interview with IGN Japan? Thanks to our very own Nicholas ‘MajinTenshinhan’ Taylor’s translations, we now have the answer to that.
IGN rep: There’s one thing I’ve been wondering about, the additional costumes… Do you have any plans or anything prepared for the future, as in, Outfit 4?
Takayuki Nakayama: Ah, so ones after Outfit 3, you mean? Well, this is… Oh, I wonder, do we?
Shuhei Matsumoto: Well, that’s not something we could keep secret, could we?
Takayuki Nakayama: But honestly, the response to the Outfit 3 set was extremely good and we were very surprised in a good way. The characters are obviously very popular so the costumes were very liked as well and that’s something we’ve taken in as data as well.
IGN rep: Well, for every character, if you just keep using them you’ll be curious about new skins for them but the ones already in the game are obviously very good already, so I guess I’m saying, we’re looking forward to it. Sorry for asking.
Shuhei Matsumoto: No, that’s fine. I actually thought you’d be asking even more about it.
IGN rep: I’m a bit scared honestly… ha ha.
Basically what this tells us is that Capcom is quite aware that the community is especially eager for more alternates in Street Fighter 6. There seems to be an implication that they are planning for more of them later down the road.
However, they’re not ready to announce a new batch of costumes just yet. No such reveal occurs during the interview, despite the aforementioned joke that circulated online.
Once Capcom has more information to announce, we’ll be sure to cover it here on EventHubs. Stay tuned until then.
