Belinda:“I’d like to see the type of events that bring together the young and old. I grew up in Seattle and I like to see different things. I remember going skating and doing park events that just brought the community together. So, anything that is able to enlighten our youth and let them that we got their backs.” Davida,“I am an artist and I am the executive director of SAARC, we are the MLK rally and one of the thing that I think would really be beautiful to do is concerts that center around reparations for Black and Native communities, specifically, space for Black and Native communities to talk about the impact of colonization and how white supremacy is on its last gasp for air, the ways that we can organize and use our culture and beauty and justice and liberation and conversations with the broader city around building a state that cares about the political moment that we are in but offer some solutions so that we can build unity.” Deborah,“We have wonderful things going on here in Seattle but what I would like to see more is programs for women and men as well, to have more programs for smaller groups of people who have lost their children to violence. That is very important to all of us because we are dealing with so much violence in our community. It’s about finding opportunities and ways to help the whole family as well as others. We have a lot of wonderful programs, but we need more.” Rashawn,“One of the things I would love to see come into the Black community is having more entrepreneurial events to where you can have businessowners, educators come into the inner city and really give a one on one, mentorship talk with the youth to show that there are other avenues, other paths. Get them into the tech environments, and career opportunities, to show that they (the youth) have that ability to build their brands, to be those generational starters. I would love to see more of those entrepreneurs and CEOs give the youth the game, and give them that impact and show them what that path could be.” Sylva:“The events I would like to see in the Black community these days are cross cultural events surrounding Africans and African Americans coming together to learn more about each other, our histories, and just work together more on how we can fight injustice in this country.” The Longshoreman,“The events I would like to see would be health, because without health you get no wealth. Education to know what to do when you get a couple of dollars in your pocket. And then I’d like to see us reach back, each one, teach one. Those are the three things I would like to see immediately.” Source: Seattle Medium General News World
