What are the odds that we get the Akuma Street Fighter 6 trailer at Capcom Cup X?

We’re rapidly approaching the end of the first season of Street Fighter 6 with Capcom Cup X slated to begin on February 21, 2024 and end on February 25, 2024. Rashid and A.K.I. have already been released as DLC fighters, so now it’s just a matter of waiting for Ed and Akuma.

During the Ed Arrives Fighting Pass trailer, we learned that Ed would be made available on February 27, 2024. Unfortunately, we did not get the opportunity to see Ed’s gameplay which indicates that Capcom may be saving that trailer for Capcom Cup X.

Is that really the only trailer that Capcom has waiting for us at Capcom Cup X? It’s best if we keep our expectations low, but the possibility exists that Capcom may have have another surprise or two that are waiting to be unveiled at the big event.

Akuma is currently slated to be released as the final DLC character for the Street Fighter 6 Year 1 Character Pass sometime in spring 2024. Needless to say, it isn’t unreasonable to think that a trailer featuring Akuma in Street Fighter 6 could happen, in some form.

What’s interesting is that Capcom had already begun teasing Akuma by showcasing new artwork to commemorate the start of 2024. This prompted the community to push a meme that even Capcom themselves are more excited for Akuma over Ed, or that Capcom had forgotten that Ed is actually slated to be next.

Of course, it’s certainly worth noting that Capcom’s DLC release schedule for Street Fighter 6 has been noticeably slower than it was during the era Street Fighter 5. Rather than releasing around six fighters a year for Street Fighter 5, they’re now only able to release around four fighters a year for Street Fighter 6.

Still, it’s likely that Capcom aren’t just developing one character at a time. Some work on Akuma’s gameplay and World Tour interactions are probably already prepared.

Furthermore, Capcom has a history of announcing that two or even three characters were ready to be released at the same time after big events like the Evo series. Even if we’re just treated to a sneak peek at Akuma, that’d be an amazing way to have the first Capcom Pro Tour series for Street Fighter 6 really go out with a bang.

There’s a lot of anticipation for Akuma in Street Fighter 6 within the fighting game community. Capcom has already demonstrated that they’re well aware of this fact.

It’s also worth noting that the first time we got to see more than a glimpse at Akuma for the last game was at the first Capcom Cup for Street Fighter 5. This could end up being a recurring tradition if Akuma’s gameplay gets shown off at Capcom Cup X.

Again though, it is important to keep expectations in check, but it really does feel like a plausible scenario. Ultimately, we’ll just have to wait for a little longer to see how things play out.
