Journalist Jason Burt, writing for The Telegraph, has recently speculated on a potential move by West Ham United for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho during the January transfer period.
Burt’s article, published on Monday (1 January), discusses the possibility of West Ham attempting to acquire the 23-year-old winger.
David Moyes, the manager of the Hammers, is reportedly looking to bolster his squad’s attacking strength.
Sancho, an England international, has not played since an incident with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag in early September, which led to his exclusion from the team’s first-team training sessions.
However, Burt points out that a transfer involving Sancho would present significant challenges for West Ham. One major obstacle is Sancho’s high salary at Manchester United, a remnant of his costly transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. It’s uncertain if West Ham would be able to match these wage expectations.
Moreover, it remains unclear whether Sancho would be open to continuing his career in the Premier League. There are rumors of interest from his former club, Borussia Dortmund, which may see him return to Germany this month.
West Ham’s previous attempt to sign another Manchester United player, Harry Maguire, during the summer also fell through due to the player’s high wage demands. Burt suggests that Sancho might pose a similar financial challenge for the Hammers.
