Weaver wins Dist. 2 seat on Covington County Commission; voters support Moore in Congressional Dist. 1

Covington County voters went to the polls on Tuesday and elected Republican Robbie Weaver as the newest member of the county commission.
Weaver secured the Dist. 2 seat on the commission, earning 83 percent of the vote to Independent candidate Shane Guy’s 17 percent.
“I’d like to thank the ones who came out and supported me,” Weaver said. “I’ve been at this for the past year and appreciate everyone who has been with me throughout my campaign. I look forward to working for the citizens of our county and am ready to get started. God bless Covington County.”
While results across the newly-redrawn First Congressional District were not official, Barry Moore was declared the winner., Covington County voters threw their support behind Moore with 84 percent of the vote over Democrat Tom Holmes’ 14 percent.
In a vote for a local amendment that will allow for the sheriff’s office to implement a $30 booking fee be charged to inmates found guilty, the “yes” vote in favor of implementing the amendment passed by 69 percent of the vote.
All other offices appearing on the ballot were single-candidate races where candidates either faced no opposition or won against same-party challenges in the primary election.
In the statewide race for Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, county voters supported Republican Sarah Stewart with 85.5 percent of the vote compared to Democrat Greg Griffin’s 14.5 percent.
In the race for president, former President Donald Trump secured the most local votes with 85.8 percent while current Vice President Democrat Kamala Harris secured 13.5 percent.
