We pay taxes to pack on the H/W, Fuel Tanker Drivers tells CR despite posing danger to road users

You’ll understand this better if you’ve been using the Highways, the only main entrance to Calabar from other State in Nigeria. The hazard that the road is now prone to.

For more than a year now, the fuel Tankers and similar trucks have been using the major road for their parking space. They Park sometimes on both sides of each lane living only a tiny space for smaller vehicles or motorcycles to passed. They Park from Army Junction down to RCC roundabout and most times extent either ways. Which is not a good idea as when a fire Outbreak occur could kill thousands especially the Harbour junction area which is the main entrance to the Calabar seaport.

A genuine source told Calabar Reporters that the reason the trucks are been parked by the road side is because former Governor Liyel Imoke sold out their parking spot situation within the depot area. This in turn make them to park along the highway as they wait for turn to load fuel from the depot.

When our reporter interviewed one of the Tanker Drivers, he said:

“We pay tax (an undisclosed amount) everyday to park by the road to enable us load from the depot”.

He added that the government of Prof Ben Ayade has promised them a spot at Odukpani which is called the Haulage City, but had not yet done anything. He concluded with hisses saying:

“May be it’s because they are earning money from us parking at the highway through taxation that’s why they are not border doing anything commendable”.

Well, by the statement given by the Gov, Prof Ben Ayade concerning the Haulage City which stated that the park will be commissioned soon will be a boost to his administration as well as clear the dangers on the road.
