We now know when the Warriors will open the 2022-23 season, raise title banner

We now know when the Warriors will begin their repeat campaign.

According to a report from Stadium’s Shams Charania, the Warriors will open the 2022-2023 season on Oct. 18 at Chase Center against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The game will be broadcast on TNT and is expected to feature the Warriors’ ring and banner ceremonies.

The Warriors and Lakers opened the 2021-22 season as well. The Warriors won 121-114 en route to winning three of four matchups against James’ team last season.

Whether it was a cruel joke by league executives to make LeBron — whose team finished 11th in the Western Conference last year and missed both the playoffs and the play-in tournament — watch the Warriors’ core of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green celebrate their fourth title is yet to be determined.

The scheduling is good news for Juan Toscano-Anderson. The former Warriors forward signed with the Lakers this offseason. This scheduling allows him to participate in the celebration of last year’s title with his championship teammates.

The Warriors will be without a few other championship team members on opening night. Otto Porter signed with the Raptors this summer, Gary Payton II moved to Portland, Damion Lee is now a member of the Phoenix Suns, and Nemanja Bjelica moved back to Europe and will play with Turkish power Fenerbahçe.

The full NBA schedule is expected to be released this month. Every NBA team hosts the league’s 29 other teams at least once per season.
