We got an A.K.I. in winners top 8

Street Fighter 6 is quickly approaching the dramatic conclusion of the game’s first competitive season, but there’s still plenty to see leading up to Capcom Cup X.

There’s two more big SF6 events going down this weekend with DreamHack Atlanta 2023 and the Capcom Pro Tour United Kingdom & Ireland qualifier with top competitors showing up to play in both regions.

Now that both tournaments have reached the top 8 ahead of finals day, we’ve gone back and put together the character breakdowns of who players have made it the farthest with.

Starting out with one of the last CPT events, the UK saw 15 different characters who saw main play in the top 32, which only left out Ryu, Dhalsim, E. Honda, Lily and Zangief so far though the Shoto has still shown up a couple times as a secondary.

Probably unsurprising at this point, but Ken and JP were the standouts in terms of popularity with four competitors taking them each to the upper brackets though there’s only one of both top tier threats that actually made it to the finals.

In fact, there’s 7 different mains in top 8 with Guile being the only repeat.

That of course includes Broski taking A.K.I. to winners side along with Kimberly, Luke, Dee Jay, JP and Ken.

With 160 competitors signed up to try and reach Capcom Cup, this top 32 breakdown represents the top 20% of players.

We got an A.K.I. in winners top 8

• Ken – 4 (1)

• JP – 4

• Dee Jay – 3

• Marisa – 3

• A.K.I. – 2

• Cammy – 2

• Guile – 2

• Jamie – 2

• Kimberly – 2

• Luke – 2

• Rashid – 2

• Blanka – 1

• Chun-Li – 1

• Juri – 1

• Manon – 1

• Ryu – 0 (2)

• Dhalsim – 0

• E. Honda – 0

• Lily – 0

• Zangief – 0

As for DreamHack, there was only 1 Ken and 3 JPs in top 32, and none of them qualified for the top 8 interestingly enough.

We also got close to seeing A.K.I. in the finals group of another major with CamPaine unfortunately falling just short with her.

The people who did make top 8 are pretty much equally diverse as CPT, however, with 7 mains split between Luke, Rashid, Chun-Li, Cammy, Manon, Marisa and even E. Honda.

On the stateside action, Cammy saw the biggest bump as the most popular pick with 5 followed by Luke though JP still wasn’t far behind next to Marisa and Kimberly.

In total, there was actually 16 mains in play for the upper brackets here with Lily and Zangief being included while Guile, Jamie, Ryu and Dhalsim were the only ones left on the sidelines.

With 260 players on paper for the event, that makes the top 32 representative of the top 12% of competitors in Atlanta.
