Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing security through the introduction of advanced technologies in crime fighting.
He emphasized that his government is making every effort to ensure that Abia remains safe for both residents and businesses.
Governor Otti made this statement at his residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, during the official introduction of the new Commander of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Brigadier General Hassan Muhammad Bello, who was recently posted to the state.
Addressing the new Brigade Commander, the Governor stressed that the government is continuously working on new strategies to outpace criminals.
He challenged the new Commander to build upon and surpass the achievements of his predecessor.
“We are not resting on our oars. We continue to devise new ways, as the criminals we know are also continuing to devise new ways of recording success in their trade.
“So I want to challenge you to continue to think of new ways. Where we are now, we are introducing technology into crime fighting. The details, you will get to be acquainted with them in due course,” Otti said.
The Governor assured Brigadier General Bello of his administration’s full support in ensuring his success.
He also commended the outgoing Commander, Brigadier General Olusola Diya, for his dedication to maintaining peace in Abia and wished him well in his new assignment.
“Let me also, on behalf of the good people of Abia State, thank General Olusola Diya for his services. We wish him well in his new tour of duty, and I have given instructions to SA security to arrange a convenient date when we can officially send him off on behalf of the state.
“So we pray that as you leave later today, that God will take you safely to your new posting,” he said.
Introducing the new Brigade Commander, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd.), highlighted the achievements recorded under Brigadier General Diya’s tenure and expressed confidence that his successor would exceed those milestones.
“I wish to thank Brigadier General Olusola Diya for all that he has done and would enjoin the incoming commander for Team Brigade to step into his shoes, and if his shoes were too big, he should put tissue paper so that they will fit.
“By doing so, he will build upon what General Diya has done and surpass it,” Ubah said.
In his remarks, Brigadier General Diya described Abia as a family to him, having served in the state for a year. He expressed confidence that his successor would perform even better and thanked Governor Otti for his support during his tenure.
The newly appointed Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Hassan Bello, expressed his delight at being posted to Abia and assured that he would collaborate with other security agencies to sustain and improve upon the security achievements of his predecessor. He pledged to support the Governor’s vision of making Abia one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.
