The Super Eagles played out a disappointing 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday.
The Eric Chelle-led side failed to build on their impressive 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, courtesy of a brace from Victor Osimhen.
The former Mali coach opted for the same lineup that started the encounter against Rwanda with the same set-up.
The first half ended 0-0 as both sides failed to find the breakthrough.
Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 74th minute to give Nigeria the lead.
Tawanda Chirewa restored parity for Zimbabwe in the 90th minute to break Nigeria’s heart in the stadium.
The Super Eagles failed to find the winner as the visitors held on to snatch a vital point.
The draw is a dent to Nigeria’s hope of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
South Africa earned a 2-0 win over the Benin Republic to boost their chances of topping the group.
The Bafana Bafana are on top of Group C with 13 points from six matches, followed by Rwanda with eight points, alongside Benin Republic in third place.
The Super Eagles now boast of seven points from six matches, while Zimbabwe have four points from the same number of matches.
Up next for the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers is a clash against Rwanda and South Africa in September.
