The Washington Rhinestone Club, Incorporated (WRC) recently celebrated its 67th Debutante Ball at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel, Southcenter. Over 150 people attended the elegant and celebratory event following a two-year absence of the formal WRC Debutante Ball and Debutante presentations due to COVID. Six remarkable young women made their debut with their dashing escorts and presenters. The theme for the 67th Ball was “A Night of Beauty, Brilliance, and Grace.”
The Queen of the 2023 Debutante Ball was Ms. Jada Johnson. The WRC Ball Queen is selected based on the Debutante holding the highest cumulative grade point average. Johnson earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.89, receiving a WRC Scholarship award of $2000. The Runner-up Scholarship was presented to Ms. Zenobia Jefferson, holding the 2nd highest cumulative grade point average of 3.6, and receiving a WRC Scholarship award of $1000.
Both Debutante Jada Johnson and Debutante Zenobia Jefferson attend the University of Washington. The four other WRC Debutantes attend HBCUs: Jackson State – Jackson, Mississippi; Clark University – Atlanta, Georgia; Delaware State – Dover, Delaware, and Claflin University – Orangeburg, South Carolina.
The 2023 Ball was the first Debutante Ball presentation since the 66th Ball held in 2019. The 2020 and 2021 Debutantes were honored in a Seattle Medium Newspaper special insert, published in the Wednesday, December 22, 2021, edition, “The Power of Hopes and Dreams.” The Washington Rhinestone Club, Inc. did not have a special recognition of Debutantes in 2022.
The 2021 Washington Rhinestone Club, Inc. Debutante Queen, Ms. Naaji Lozan attends Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California pursuing a major in Chemistry. Lozan attended the 67th ball and coronated the 2023 WRC Ball Queen Jada Johnson.
The Washington Rhinestone Club, Inc. proudly presented a talented group of intelligent young women with high aspirations for their higher education and professional success for the 67th Ball: Debutante Queen, Debutante Jada Johnson, 2nd Runner Up, Debutante Zenobia Jefferson, Debutante Nieela Davis, Debutante A’Miyah Edwards, Debutante Paris Feliz, and Debutante Tyra Griffin.
