Warriors eke out in-season tournament win over San Antonio Spurs

SAN FRANCISCO — Steph Curry scored 35 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 118-112 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night. The win keeps Golden State in in-season tournament contention, advancing them to 2-1 in group play with one game to play against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday.

After a lackluster first half, Curry scored eight points in three minutes to fuel a Golden State 18-2 run in the third quarter, inspired by Victor Wembanyama giving the Spurs their first lead since the second quarter. When Curry went to the bench, the Spurs closed out the third quarter to make it a five-point game heading into the final frame.

The Warriors went on an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter and took a 15-point lead, then committed five of their 24 turnovers in the final two-and-a-half minutes to let the Spurs back in the game, down by only four in the final minute. Curry took his first free throws when the Spurs started hacking to stop the clock.
